OFFICIAL HTC Desire Thread

Does anyone know if MTN offer the Desire S on an AnyTime 100 package? (They have it on an anytime 200 package in their leaflet)

Haven't had a chance to get down to a store and just wanted to check if anyone knows...

Do you guys think I'll regret getting the single-core Desire S over the more expensive dual-core Sensation/galaxy SII?

I'm pulling my hair out trying to decide....I'm just waiting for next months prices to come into effect which might make my decision easier.

Yes. But i see the galaxy s2 is now cheaper, on Vodacom anyway.

Does anyone know when we will get Desire S update?. This has been available OTA since September... getting no response or reply from HTC...

According to reports from multiple sources, the HTC Desire S is currently receiving an update to Android 2.3.5, which also bumps the mid-range handset from HTC Sense 2.1 right up to Sense 3.0. The new version of Sense, which first shipped on the Sensation earlier in the year, features a redesigned 3D launcher and lock screen setup, amongst other enhancements.

Apparently unbranded Desire S owners in the UK, as well as owners of Vodafone T-Mobile, O2 and Orange have begun to see the update roll out to their handsets over the past few days. To see if you're in line for the update yet, head to Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> Software update. If you're not seeing anything just yet, then hold tight, it'll probably be sent out sooner rather than later.

If you want to push for it, you can use the HTC vulnerability as a reason.

Help needed

I dropped my Desire S on some stones on the weekend and scratched the glass. Does anybody know of a place in Cape Town that could fix the glass?

The dreaded reboot loop has hit my desire big time, confirmed to be hardware related, also restored my Desire back to Stock + unrooted, S-ON.

Only one small problem... I bought it in NZ... wonder if they would honor the warranty here.
 
MTN send mine to leaf... Fixed no questions asked and I didn't even bother to unroot or flash to stock. But I bought in sa. They didn't notice root or custom rom doubt they'll notice u bought it in nz

Do any of you know what RUU to use to unroot a Vodacom Desire?
I have a problem with my flashlight not working, so I guess i'll have to unroot it to get it fixed under my warranty...
 
Well I have used the top two on this page before and it works, but I'm not sure if there are things VC will see on it though...

EDIT: on that page as well, apparently the Vodafone_UK one is exactly the same as the one they use here is south africa, maybe give that one a go and see how it looks. After a bit of google'ing there are numerous cases where this has been confirmed by users...

Running Android 2.3.5 with cyanogenmod 2.6.37.6, MIUI-109300 and I got to say this is superb!!! My iPhone 4 is my default handset, I hardly ever pick up my Desire but these days, with this rom, I'm finding myself drawn to it more and more...

Thanks for the link! I'm still a beginner with all things root so correct me if i'm wrong.

I just want to know a few more things:
1. Does root (without flashing a new ROM) change your software number and baseband version?
2. Are Vodacom phones unbranded?

I'm asking because the third one on the page matches my phone's current baseband version and software number and my phone also came with Froyo. So it seems that it might be the right RUU for my phone.

If it isn't I will probably go for the Vodafone_UK one... Anyone here who has sent their Vodacom Desire back for warranty?

No you have to change the software(Flash) to change the ver number, root is just removing the security or other wise explained you get the administrator password.

They not branded as they dont display the words vodacom but they branded as they use there edited version of the OS

As long as you run RUU and make sure HBOOT is back to S-ON I am sure they wont notice a thing, doesn't matter what version you did it with. Some people even send dead phones in for repairs with flashed ROM's and got them repaired. to go RUU is just a safety precaution to make sure they dont have excuses.
 
I've been using MIUI for a few days and I must say I'm so impressed, I'm even prefering it to Cyanogen.
