Official HTC One (M8) Thread

It wont be a month, MTN update contracts on 1st of the month hence their availability... but Vodacom only update theirs on the 7th so wait till the 8th to find out whether it will be available

Wow I did not know that. You guys have taught me so much in this little thread about how Vodacom works its awesome thank you :). BTW I am not wasting my airtime more like works telkom time :p.

Phoned Vodacom Gateway earlier and they advised that I phone back on the 6th because they should have their specials out by then. Nothing concrete about the release of the M8, but it's looking hopeful. :)

One of the first things I am looking at trying out:

Oh, and the M8 BEATS the S5 in terms of sound quality ;).

Ha ha, I'm also waiting for the new specials. Will keep an eye out here to see if you've had any luck. I won't lie, I'm so looking forward to this phone!

So did you call them today? Wishful thinking I guess...

Lol, no I was way to busy with work. I will be phoning today but I wouldn't hold my breath. Their website has no mention of the M8...

Ouch" it's already been a long wait.... REALLY how can they take so long to fly in some phones and switch one on to check it works in SA? I understand processes but it can't be that difficult to make a plan for customers who are loyal followers... Stumped.

So I need a bit of advice on whether I should get the M8 on a contract (MTN) vs buying it from the Orange store.

Contract benefits include me getting to pay a monthly fee, having Afrihost data linked to my phone and having a local company to deal with any faults with the phone. Disadvantages would include the higher total cost of the phone, higher call rates and having to wait until MTN stocks the phone.

Orange store benefits include paying a lower total cost for the phone, having access to low prepaid rates and receiving the phone soon. Disadvantages would include having to pay full price for the phone upfront, no directly linked data, and likely long delays should something be wrong with the phone.

What are your thoughts? Also, to those that have purchased from the orange store, what is the standard warranty on phones? Thanks in advance.

What kinda options are there for this? And is it recommended?

Afrihost has mobile data options. I'm currently on the 4gb promotion for R145. The special (2gb + 2gb) is on until December, but it usually goes on for longer. If your sim is on an MTN contract, you can link the data directly through that sim, so you use Afrihost paid data through your phone. It's pretty convenient.

I'm starting to think it is much cheaper to be on prepaid than on contact and also less risk for having to cough up to cancel the contract should anything happen....

Only challenge is the upfront cost but if you can pay that I think it is the cheaper and definitely more flexible option.

Plus no waiting for the limp networks to release the phone you want....

The warranty is carried with those local HTC peeps, so you don't have to wait long if something had to go wrong. Or should I say, you'd be waiting just as long as if you had got the phone on contract.

I'm considering the Orange option, but honestly, the 16 gigs of onboard memory put me off. HTC SA's facebook page said that we're getting the 32 gig version. So I'm kind of holding out for that.

Same here...

Me three; I want this phone so badly! I was very disappointed this past weekend when I went to look at the new Vodacom catalogue, after being told the week before when it would be coming out, and not finding any mention of the M8 in it. Even the M7 was removed from the new catalogue and I really hope that means they are preparing for the M8 rather than pulling support for HTC. :(

Looks like MTN are only stocking the 16 Gig version. Sigh.

Asked them on Facebook.

I think the best bet is the Orange route. Just waiting to grow a pair and commit :P

Well I am out. Tomorrow afternoon I am getting the Xperia Z2. Maybe I will get HTC in the upgrade but right now I am sick of waiting...

Aw man, one of probably a long line of casualties......

I am hanging in there but did start half-eying the Z2 since it's actually here.

Let's see how long my patience can last.... I don't blame you, the wait is exhausting.

Anyway, please post your feedback on the Z2 somewhere.
