Official HTC One (M8) Thread

Obviously a bit premature since we still waiting for this phone to eventually pass these stringent 'tests', but anyone considering the One Mini 2? Was thinking about going for this due to smaller size but specs are down and actual user reviews of the big brother seem majority happy with the contentious camera and size issues. Cumon Vodacom, get us the phone.

Mini's always have lower specs. They're usually based on previous gen technology, but still priced in the 'flagship' price bracket. I'd never waste money on a mini.

Someone mentioned dejavu? Had the same wait two years ago at upgrade time for my One X.... Back then Vodacom was publishing new lists once a month only and had to wait for the first week of the month to list the new htc. Anyone know when their next list is coming out - perhaps we could see this phone then.

Same time, probably :/. I have just got back from Gateway and they said "We can't order it because it is not on our lists yet." so whoever I spoke to (forgot the name) gave me wrong information 5 times. But the phone has been ordered, however in the part area where they capture the item that has been ordered its blank. Instead the guy used the description field to put in the M8.

Yeah, thought it would be weird for them to be able to order before Vodaworld knew about it (first place that had stock of the One X).
We'll just have to kelp our ears open and post if any news becomes available. Anyone have a clue why these networks take so long to test when the international carriers can turnaround the phones quickly, or is it just an excuse for supply problems?

I would imagine the blame sits more on htc and their local distributor. Late negotiations and unfavorable terms = delays. If samsung can have a phone passed by the operators and ready to rock on international launch day then everyone else (save for supply issues) should be able to do the same. One of the journalists, Steven Ambrose, tweeted from the dubai launch that he had it on good authority stock was readily available for us.

I watched that launch of HTC's. They mentioned that stock was already in US carrier stores, and ready for shipping as the speaker was speaking.

It's absolute BS waiting almost 2 months JUST for a launch date here. I'm seriously considering just buying it through the Orange store. FML.

Prepaid rates far more favourable anyway so ive gone ahead and ordered from Orange.

I Agree, absolute nonsense that they cant give an ETA 2months after launch. Mind you, they(htc sa) gave numerous ETA's for the M7 and missed them each time.

I say poor planning on HTC's behalf and again reference the other manufactureres ability to launch timeously.

Not exactly solid information, but I saw someone mention this on Facebook. Cellucity's pre-order page has the release date at the end of June.

Not exactly confirmation from the networks, but it's close.

Page is here for all those who are interested.

That sucks :/. I am starting to think I might as well get the Z2, sure the internal storage is smaller but its just as good in terms of performance and camera quality. Has a bigger battery and more RAM (not that RAM is a issue) and a good build quality. A huge plus is the sound cancelling headphones you get with the phone. *sigh* I am starting to remember the love/hate relationship I had with HTC... :/

Shame man, it's a tough life

Seriously, the advantages of buying it from Orange is so much more than getting it through one of our cell companies. Best of all you get to cut out a real lot of dumb people out of the process.
And the phone delivers quickly.
You'll also be able to change your phone to prepaid, which means you'll pay less for phone calls and all that stuff.

Buying from Orange is the better choice. You buy from vodacom/mtn when you cannot afford to pay for it upfront. I'd recommend a personal loan/credit card, because then you have an option of paying it off earlier if you want to without significant dildo penetration.

Origin is super fast with the shipping, and there's no bloatware on the phone.

In the end It's Leaf who sucks. But who needs them anyways.

Its sad. This is an awesome device but I have lost interest waiting. By the time it gets here the LG G3 will be on its way and it M8 will be old news.

Being 4 months late is an eternity in the smartphone world. HTC in SA have completely screwed it up.

Afaik HTC is now being handled by different people and there was no official HTC in SA earlier in the year when the S5 was being prep'd for SA markets. THe new guys are taking a huge amount of flak - I'd hate to be them.

Ingram Micro Mobility are the authorized distributors for SA. One has to wonder if they're useless or merely at the mercy of HTC global.

I've also decided not to wait for Vodacom and have ordered one from Orange (with a cover from eBay)

The Orange price has come down in the last few weeks which made it worth considering...
