Official HTC One thread

If you like LED displays, then the Galaxy S4 is for you.

If you prefer plasma displays, then the HTC One is for you.

:D

That's not awfully useful information unless it was a joke. Anyway the HTC One has Super LCD3 screen with AH IPS technology.

I don't think there is a big enough difference between the quality of the screens to warrant a choice of one phone over the other based on the screen. I will say that Dr. Soneira from Displaymate was highly impressed with the S4 screen, which says a lot, unfortunately Displaymate didn't review the screen on the HTC One.

LANDED HTC ONE! :o

This was one of the most frustrating upgrade experiences I've ever gone through. I have been calling the upgrade department for about 3 weeks now trying to secure an HTC One. I was given the run around each time. Most of the operators have no clue of whats actually potting. Some say the phone wasn't available, others, that there was stock but the system was down, others that stock only coming at the end of May. Today when I called, they informed me that all stock was shipped and they had nothing left (Lovely)

I usually always do a pay in amount UPFRONT when signing a contract and buying a phone. The call center could never provide me with any sort of cash pay in amount which I couldn't understand. They kept trying to push me to pay it over 24months and just said "It will cost x amount every month". When I did the math, it worked out to about R5600 over 24 months.

Anyways, I gave up on dealing with the idiots at the upgrade department. They are absolutely clueless. I then phoned about 8 Voda shops in Gauteng to see if anyone had any stock. Apparently, each store places its own orders for phones from the Vodacom warehouse. Vodaworld was first point of call, but they had already sold all their stock in a few hours. 6 other stores had stock 'coming in the next few weeks'. Then finally managed to find a store with stock (Bedford Square) - They literally had a single HTC One left. I asked the lady to secure it for me, and picked it up today.

Very happy with the phone, it has lived up to all the reviews (and yes, I am an HTC fanboy). The phone has real solid build construction and feels good in the hand. The store also had no problem with me paying upfront, and the pay in amount was about R4k on a Talk 130 (Similar to the new Smart M). That's a saving of R1600 against paying it off for 2 years. The sales lady informed me that this is how Vodacom tries to sell its phones to most sheep....errrrr i mean.... people via the call center. They don't even give you the upfront option.

Now, accesories for this phone are very limited, you will mostly likely struggle to find any variety in covers or screen protectors (for at-least a month or two). So I ordered from MobileFun.co.uk (they do intl shipping):

38464 InvisibleSHIELD Screen Protector - HTC One
38255 Case-Mate Tough Case for HTC One - Black

You really don't have a choice with this phone, you have to buy a cover. The reason is that the camera lens sits flush with the back and so its vulnerable to scratches. If you are someone who keeps your phone in his pocket all day long, it might not be a problem.

Lastly, its really cool to finally trial out the Vodacom LTE network. Speeds were almost 20 mbits up and down.

Lucky...

Still waiting on MTN for feedback, they said they should have stock soonish.. Hope they keep to that statement!

I'm in love with my phone. Received mine yesterday afternoon. I was bitching and moaning that I wasn't receiving one when out of the blue I got the call. Ditched work and went and picked my new friend.

I have to agree with everyone. This phone is absolutely brilliant. Something that impressed is that I took it off charge at 3am to avoid overcharge and at 9am, it's only lost 1% battery. My S2 would have lost at least 10% in the same period sitting idle.

As for covers, I need to order cannot. Going for the double dip case. I love the two tone colours.

That is impressive for standby time. I lose more on my S4 in that timeframe. Wish I could have taken the one, but I just cannot go with Vodacom...

Be careful with the double dip covers. I've seen some reports on xda of it actually damaging the phone. I guess it's ok if you are going to put it on and leave it for the next 2 years, but if you remove the phone it seems that the cover actually damages the speaker covers and the side plastic moulding.

Also read that. Some covers come with a tiny moulding defect. Thankfully they are sold out most places so I'm hoping the new batch are sorted.

Also, if anyone wants the grey double dip case, not the two tone, mobilefun have it on preorder.

New unlocked HTC One phones going for $570 plus $35 shipping on ebay. I know the gov. going to nail me with vat when it arrives in SA, but it still look like a good buy. Total cost R 6 300

HTC at Vodaworld has closed a while back.Rather dissapointed.Only managed to hold the dummy :( Tested both the S4 and Xperia and they great but i want the One !!

Called my local Autopage and was told that they don't have stock. When I enquired about ordering 1, they said that I've got to come into the store and order the phone there. I'm past due for an upgrade, so I'm quite keen about getting an HTC One, especially as my Desire HD has been showing her age recently.

Also, can someone please tell me how I go about getting LTE enabled for my account (I'm on Vodacom)?

Lastly, does anyone advise getting a normal sized SIM card trimmed down to a micro-SIM for the HTC One, and getting this done in one of the cellular shops?

For LTE I called up Vodacom to get it activated but you can also do it via the online My Vodacom account manager. I had my SIM card cut previously for my One X and it is probably better to get it done at one of the cell shops. There are templates that you can get online to do it yourself, but the cutting tool that the shops have make it simple and should prevent any mishaps caused by cutting incorrectly. Depending on what they want to charge you that is ;) otherwise get a new micro sim.

So I was on a list for HTC one at vodashop killarney in jhb. I already received one from another source so if you call now you could pick one up.

I wish companies like Asus, Dell, Logtech, or Intel could buy HTC. They are good when it comes to providing good service.

And what happened to this HTC opens SA office?
