Official HTC One thread

I'd like to see when this phone is actually available from local networks. I just couldn't stand the wait anymore, and don't have 10k in cash to whip out.

Got a call from Vodacom Upgrades department yesterday morning. They are expecting stock on the 7th and I should get mine within 3 - 5 days. Can't wait :)

Good to know. Missus needs a new contract. Perhaps, i'll get her one and see which one I like best :D

Really? I'm wondering if I should call. I can't see anything around phone availability anywhere.

I'm waiting for this phone. Even if takes a few more weeks. I played the galaxy and it really was boring. Just like my flashed jelly bean S2

*edit just called upgrades. They said they don't have a clue when it will be on stock. They asked me to call on Monday again.

I got the same answer when I called in last weekend. It seems that the weekend support staff aren't too jacked, but I also logged a please call me wrt to the One on the Vodacom website and they called me back yesterday with the news.

Some more feedback regarding this phone:
Anything else you guys want to know? :)

Awesome feedback.. Thanks :)

Anything else you could provide on the software side? like BlinkFeed? any stuttering?
And how about the camera? the Ultrpixel and Zoe's?
Does the One get a bit warm on heavy usage with that aluminum back?

My HTC Desire HD used to get warm. Not too much of a hassle. More of a niggle. I've read this does get a little warm though. Probably if you're playing a game, not just browsing forums for an hour.

Lol, thanks RandomGRK.. Also read somewhere else that it would get warm but all depends on how intensive the games that are being played, otherwise normal usage there shouldn't be an issue.

wrt Vodacom, I also went to a store and ask about it and they said the same. Comes out this week for the 7th May deals. Would just need to order from them.

BlinkFeed is OK, haven't really used it all that much. But it does its job as a centralised hub for your social media and news, I guess. Not really all that big on social media, so it's probably not aimed at me, but I can see the use for it.
No stuttering whatsoever, very impressed by how fluid they've managed to make Sense 5.
The camera seems fine, quite good in low light and probably more or less comparable with the Galaxy S3 in well-lit environments, though of course the lower megapixel count does bite you a bit. It's a bit unusual to see 16:9 aspect ratio photos, but that seems to be the trend these days. Haven't gotten around to the Zoe feature :)
Yes, it does get a bit warm when under heavy use. Not hot by any means, but definitely warm. The heat dissipates quickly, though.

What is sound quality like techie? How does it perform as a music player?

Sound quality is really superb for a phone. Like I said before, it won't be replacing your 5.1 setup anytime soon, but it's definitely an improvement over anything I've used on a phone before. It performs really well as a music player, no complaints :)

Thanks. I would be worried if it got close to my stereo amp or 5.1 lol. Just wanted a comparison to the Apple phone, iPod for gym listening and general portable use.

It's sad the HTC One doesn't have a micro SD slot, or USB OTG or HOST.
If it did, I would consider getting it. I love quality sound.

+1.

I am also worried that they will not have the support, specifically here in South Africa, for the next 2 years. About a month ago I was certain that I will be getting the HTC One, but with the no show to date (and some of the things mentioned by xera), I am probably scratching it off my “to get” list (as much as it pains me :().

It does have OTG support. From the Anandtech review

Lately I’ve been getting questions about USB On The Go (USB-OTG) support on just about every handset I test. With microSD cards going away for the most part, it does make sense to explore this somewhat. I tested the HTC One using a USB-OTG adapter I bought a while back, and can report that it does work with USB mass storage devices, keyboards, mice, and even hubs.

I'm really hoping that Vodacom will offer the phone with other plans as well, ie: Topup contracts.

I'm not a fan of the Smart S,M,L

I'm getting mine on the Talk120s package, so it is not only limited to the Smart packages.

Have you ordered already? I wonder how long it would take if ordered now, seeing as it says "Mid May" in that brochure. Would be awesome if could get it before then.

Mine was back ordered as part of my upgrade on Thursday last week. Spoke to them this morning and they confirmed they should have stock tomorrow and that I should get it delivered before the end of the week.
