Wayne Parnell sets new world cup record for SA.
Wayne Parnell's economy rate (9.44) is the worst in a World Cup match for South Africa by anyone bowling at least nine overs and the equal fourth worst in all World Cup matches."

That proves he does not belong there, he's out of his depth.

Ummmm... That's his last over. The damage was done long before then.

All due respect, Mickey...if all the bowlers are doing a competent job, then the batsmen are forced to take risks against good balls rather than waiting for the rubbish. And Parnell bowled a lot of rubbish.

Parnell's problem seems to be mental...once he gets on top, he's really good. If someone gets on top of him, he doesn't seem to have a way back. He doesn't seem to have an average day (my opinion).

It's no like Parnell is an all rounder. If you are a specialist bowler and you bowl more than 5 overs you shouldn't blame being given too much over.
I never view Parnell as an allrounder myself. He's a specialist seamer who should bowl 10 overs everytime whenever possible. Hence he shouldn't be protected. Perfectly capable of exectuting.

sure I agree.

What Im saying is when a bower is having a bad.day, Duminy as the 6th bower goes us variety and options to protect the bad bower.

today, that tactic couldn't be implemented.

So the problem is down to whoever is using him, not Parnell himself. He's our fastest bowler who should be given the new ball to wreck havoc, not hold back and be controlled in the middle overs.

Parnell's performance today has pretty much been Morkel ususal form these days so I don't know what the fuss is about.

I personally said Parnell must be selected ahead of Morkel and given the new ball. I don't know why they selected him and only brought him into the attack in the 18th over with two set batsmen in the mould of Kohli&Dhawan. That's downright stupid whichever way you look at it.

Right now Parnell is a better strike bowler than Steyn&Morkel, and when you have Philander opening the bowling, you need the better strike bowler operating at the other end. Not "unleash him" after Morkel has just been going at 6-7 rpo.
Agree with Morkel can be expensive if the wicket doesn't suit him. That is why you play the bowler to suit the wicket. If you have x wicket play x bowler. Simple. That is why you have a squad. At least you know which type of wickets Morkel is good at. With Parnel you know 1 in 2 matches irrespective of the wicket he is going to get clobbered. If you want to use such a player at the the world cup all you'll be doing is perpetuating SAs choker tag.

Very valid opinion and I share it. That's why I say that if he plays, he must open the bowling.

Lets get reality from former greats like Bishop and Holding. They said yesterday that the equivalent of bowlers going for 1/40 in former days are like 0/60 especially if you are bowling at death. Parnell stuffed up in the middle overs and one can argue that he should not have come in at that stage, he should have been first change, not Duminy and in any case Philander's injury upset the applecart....not making a case for him,. as I said "one could argue that..."...it was his middle overs that stuffed up, and in all due respect he had a planned wicket dropped.
Someone will go for plenty...in the overall context if you take the extra 30 runs offf score, to 280 that would have been an underachievement by India, because 308 is gettable...QdK..is already impatient.

Pace is not everything. At the international stage must be able to do something. Take Tsotsobe, not the fastest but he can swing the ball and is effective at what he does. Yes, towards the latter stages he can dissappear a bit.
Think you did mention that a specialist bowler should not be protected and be able to do the job. McClaren should be the man for the nr 7 position. If not him, I would give Wiese a shot.

To win we need Amla to contribute bigtime and for Faf to stop trying to bat like AB and play his normal game ... well not too normal.

Seeing as Tahir did ok, I expect close to 30 overs of death by spin - Jadeja, Ashwin, Raina! AB & JP will know that Rohit can roll his arm too so it should be interesting. Mohit, Shami & Yadav should do ok in 20 overs.

I think the Proteas should target Yadav, but if Dhoni is clever and bowls him upfront when Amla&QdK are still looking he can avoid that.

FFS QDK, take some Ritalin and act like an opener and use several deliveries to assess the pitch - we need not waste wickets with rash shots..

I don;t understand people who rathe Wiese&mcLaren ahead of Parnell seriously.

Like it or not guys, Parnell is THE future leader of the Proteas attack - Parnell, Rabada & Marchant are our future attack, and all will be able to consistently bowl 145-150kph. Already Parnell&Marchant are 150kph bowlers.

A lot has been invested in Parnell. If Abbott/Morris/ was playing they wouldn't, I repeat, they wouldn't have been messed around like Parnell. It's being utterly disrespectful to someone who can bowl that fast 145-150kph, in AUS/NZ conditions to get them to bowl at a time when frontline seamers should really be boundary riding waiting for their 2nd spells!

McLaren is still injured. Sorry, don't rate Wiese - would then rather go for Albie.

He's no longer 19. He's going on to 23 now, and guys his age have got cooler heads on their shoulders Wiliamson, Monimul etc. But Amla needs to be talking to him, and considering they bat together almost all the time you could argue he hasn;t been telling the young man the right things.
