Official ICC 2015 CWC thread

Steyn didn't have healthy endorsements, wasn't a hero of tens of millions of South Africans, with every celebrity wanting a piece of him every weekend. If he did, he wouldn't have simultaneously reached #1 like Tsotsobe.

You say this like it's a good thing

Lonwabe let all this go to his head - are you surprised that his career is fcked up - where's the personal responsibility, where's the discipline, the dedication.

Dammit man, he's a case study in how to take your talent and p i s s it against the wall like last nights 100 year Chivas

This is full evidence of why guys are jealous of him.

They never could understand why he could have a Gayle-like lifestyle in Durbs, PE and now Jozi, party hard+live large, and still be able to perform better than them. Like I said important figures, corporates - car dealers&top sports clothing manufacturers indulged him too. His coaches(former players) and team-mates were simply jealous because they never got the same. And he earned it all because wasn't a quota player - world class, arguably best in the world. In fact I wouldn't be surprised that certain fans too are jealous of him judging from some of the comments.

there you go...

You miss the point entirely. His career is not messed at all.

He did ok in SL even when they were talking *** about him.

Stayed longer than he did when he was injured but he went and sorted himself out. Even though his performances were mixed (just like Steyn&Morkel), his last game before that was brilliant.

He then came back and topped the domestic ODI&T20 wicket-taking charts.

The only thing missing was him being picked, but Tsotsobe's poor/average games are handful compared to Morkel, Parnell, McLaren, Abbott etc who are or were there! ;)

I'm sorry but your "his career is fcked up" is absolute nonsense!

Reason on the basis of facts next time not spew drivel.

I'm cracking seriously. If someone calles Tsotsobe's career messed up, I wonder what a good one looks like. Some people are unbelievable!!!

You are in love with this useless clown

It's a pity the glaring injustice doesn't hit you.

Maybe because it's not glaring?

No-one denies Lopsy is a fine bowler. But what kind of message does it send to the rest of the team if you include someone with his behavioural issues in the team?

Lopsy should travel to the Carribean and work on getting into the West Indies team....his attitude is more in keeping with Gayle's than the culture the SA team encourages.

To carry on about Tsotsobe is pointless. He is out of the picture and out of form, so forget him for now.

We have but bear in mind India lost to us and draw with England on their way to the championship in 2011.

In 1999 Australia lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in the pool games before going on to hammer Pakistan in the final.

It's not over!! Cometh the hour, cometh the man!

Pakistan were dead and buried in the pool game vs England in 1992 till the rain saved them and they went on that amazing run to win the world cup.

Weren't you the one who said his career is 'fcked up' - maybe I read incorrectly. Oh wait, you didn't say that, my bad - the fact that he isn't being picked to play for the national side is de facto evidence that his career is 'fcked up' - maybe if he wasn't 'livin' large' he would be at the world cup as a player and not as a commentator

ZCF, you remind me of those old SACOS administrators who saw a conspiracy behind every stump cam, you really do.

Philander out of West Indies match
http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/content/story/837583.html
South Africa fast bowler Vernon Philander will miss South Africa's next match, against West Indies on February 27, and is in doubt for their game against Ireland next Tuesday after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. Philander sustained the injury on Sunday, during the clash against India at the MCG, when he bowled just four overs and was off the field for most of the Indian innings. Although he returned to bat later in the game, an MRI scan on Monday revealed the extent of the damage.

Philander has been prescribed a recovery period of between a week and 10 days, which will mean South Africa will definitely seek a replacement quick for the West Indies game, but the management remains hopeful he will be able to play against Ireland. "We have to give him every opportunity to make sure that he can be available. At the same time we don't want to be foolish by taking short-cuts. If he passes all the fitness tests and is symptom free going into the Ireland game he may play but at this stage it is too early to tell," Mohammed Moosajee, the team's manager said.

Interesting that an anti-colonialist EFF member takes such interest in the most colonial of sports around :D

And people wonder why the Proteas&Springboks are the most boring units in their respective sports.

Please don't get me wrong, I like Lonwabe - I think he is a damn good bowler. That said, you can't deny that off field activities will affect your career (and no, it's not just jealousy)

Thankfully I'm not the only one who had something to say. Respect jounalists in the print&tv media have pointed it out so I'm in good company. ;)

Obviously your comment goes beyond just th eTsotsobe case, but I told you guys long back that there is some discernible bias and I think I've proven it each time. The beauty is there'll be plenty more opportunities for evidence. Write it off as an obsessed-conspiracy theorist, but I invite you one day to just chat to the common man in the street who understands even a little bit of rugby/cricket and I'm sure they'd say the same even thought they follow the game very little.

Anyway over to SA vs WI now........

An attack of Steyn, Morkel, Parnell, Abbott, Tahir (with JP chipping in), reduces our odds of winnings significantly. Philander has sort of been our one-man pace attack, now we have four who haven't looked remotely close to being equal to to what he could do singlehandedly. Even if one or two of them steps up, I think the other 2/3 will undo that work.

I hope they have a plan, but I don't think Amla, QdK, Faf, AB, Miller, JP will be able to put on the runs that this attack can defend; an djudgin from our batting form, nor will they be able to chase down what this attack will bleed.

I agree that off-filed activities will affect you, but he's been pretty damn good despite that. As good as or better than Philander, Steyn&Morkel. Imagine if they had some fun outside how poor they'd be in comparison to Tsotsobe who does the same. By being a world class bowler who's African and the only one who can walk into an Proteas side, I think Tsotsobe is victim of exaggerated scrutiny.

But anyway he's not there, and our attack have a huge challenge in their hands. I think a plane ticket for that shrink is in order.
