I see absolutely no logic in having both Abbott&Philander in the same XI.

Philander is beter than Abbott, so Philander for Abbott is the only change necessary.

When Philander is there Morkel&Steyn will feed off him.

Pakistan basically took 50 runs off Abbott. West Indies aside, what decent team has he bowled well against? NONE!!!

Fair, and I said a much a few comments earlier, but I'd rather have Farhaan bat at 5. We need a decent bowling option to help JP fill the 5th bowler's quota.

Amla, Faf, AB(c-wk), JP, Farhaan, Rilee, Miller, Philander, Steyn, Tahir, Morkel

As much as some argue Abbott deserves it ahead of Morkel, Farhaan deserves it ahead of QdK yet he's been messed aorund!

If I was going to drop anyone, it would be Steyn.
Abbott: best: 4/21 Av 12.87 Econ: 4.12
Morkel: best: 3/34 Av: 18.8 Econ: 4.54
Steyn: best 2/29 Av: 30.14 Econ: 4.90

(I'm not sure if this has been updated with today's game)

They said the same thing about Gary Kirsten when he was first drafted. Peter was the first to give him hell about it. I think he did an OK job at the end of the day. :D

But I understand where you're coming from with this being CWC, but he proved himself in the games beforehand which justifies his selection at the top of the order. It's now a case of how much are the selectors and coaches willing to gamble moving into the next round?
 
Proteas should just throw in the towel now (It looks like they have given up already.)

They thrash a minnow on a flat track and everyone thinks we are so great. The moment we face even the most average team we can't handle the pressure. We almost lost against Zimbabwe and now we lose against a poor Pakistan team.

The fact is that this is the most underperforming South African cricket team I have ever seen.

They talk about treating the world cup as just another series which is just pathetic. This is the World Cup ffs. They need to start playing as if they have even a shred of pride in the country they are representing.
 
As already pointed out, the big losers today were the batsman. A lineup strengthened with the inclusion of JP, a lineup that scored 400+ in the last 2 games, couldn't put 200 on the board against Pakistan. Piss poor performance. Period.

I agree. Once again I said as much. But Steyn strikes fea rinto teams. He's mere presence in the XI does wonders. Remove him and we look vulnerable before the toss.

But we're complicating things. Parnell/Abbott came in for Philander. When he's recovered they drop out!

Keep in mind that Steyn has been bowling in the powerplays and at the death. We remove him God help the Proteas when Abbott&Morkel have to bowl at the death!!!

Why do people keep ignoring the fact that our batting order has no teeth if Amla doesn't kick on?

All the time when we fail to chase the whole batting team is blamed yet people forget how good it looks when Amla bats until at least the 30th over and posts a decent knock.

400 against a minnow and a broken WI team which is arguably the weakest in 40 years means nothing.

Look at the game against Zim where we barely managed to beat them or India who thrashed us to get a more realistic view of where the team is.

Hell, this Pakistan team is average at best and were on top of us for most of the match.

One of these days Faf will lose form and all of you will be forced to say "bat AB at 3 or open". :D

In the end, a lot of our troubles will end once AB bats at 3 at least. Imagine first wicket falls and AB joins Amla at the crease before the 15th over. There'll be white flags by the 25th over!
