Official ICC World T20 thread

Gonna head off to the airport with a sign saying "Welcome home chokers". Wouldn't have been too upset if we'd lost in the final, but not another goddamn semi.

tbf at 50-3 odd early on put the pressure on Jp and Kallis to build an innings. It is easy to say go for it there are wickets in hand, but when you are 7 down at 15 overs, you will turn around and say why didn't JP and Kallis build a base.

SA played really bad cricket overall today. Wasn't good in the field, bowlers struggled, and they weren't able to [yet again] properly get along with the bat.

I think the problem was the SA spinners, over the last couple of months, Van Der Merwe and Botha have single handedly won SA alot of games, today they where smacked around a bit. That was the only difference from tonights game compared to the games SA won.

The thing is the start of the innings already dictated going for at least one boundary every two overs. They lost this game in the field and in the middle of our bowling innings.

Exactly, we were staring into the abyss... They did extremely well to get us as close as we did but alas, in the end...

Not at all milo, i have no problems rebuilding the innings but with 12 overs bowled and 7 wickets in hand i think the consolidation should come to an end and the hitting should start.

Really 3 down after 12 is nothing man.

It is not about what kallis does in his innings about what he does at certain points in his innings and classic kallis and the 50 over kallis i hate was the one on show today, the slow single picking run rate destroying batsmen that i hated too watch in 50 over games.

Yes he made more than a run a ball but between him and duminy they destroyed our run rate beyond repair, we may as well have been bowled out for 100 because the writing was on the wall when we needed 82 off 48 balls, still they picked the singles!!!!!!!

consolidation is when you get the team back on track, from there you push on towards the total, consolidation is not about having 7 wickets in hand and an 11 run per over rate.

To everyone who's suggesting that they should have just hit the ball, do you honestly think that didn't occur to them? How do you propose the hit the ball when it's landing in front of your toes delivery after delivery?

We where beaten by a team that just out-played us.

As much as I'm supportive of the team, but when 80 were needed off 48 the ball was barely landing in the block hole - Duminy was content to tuck the ball and nudge it around for singles.

I have no problem with the consolidation after losing those 3 wickets - but consolidation in T20 is 2 to 3 overs, not the rest of the innings.

That's half way acceptable - but why not build a base around one player and the other one takes a few more risks?

Chis double step making the block hole balls full tosses, they never looked like trying to hit the ball until we needed 11 runs an over and that is what killed me.

They got so far behind the rate they may as well have started slogging FFS. Did it not occur to them the run rate was getting out of hand? Surely you can try and do something, this is not bangledesh batting this is flippin SA with power to come but no we still run singles.

Hit the damn ball or at least double step do something FFS.

Agreed the spinners cost us today and AB, Gibbs and Smith collectively scored 16 off 21 balls for 3 wickets, that's the game right there. Ludicrous to apportion blame to Kallis and JP, they were the heroes of the SA effort for crying out loud....

Ag man. So so so disappointing. The Champions Trophy starts in SA in just a few months. I hope we go out in the early rounds, losing on home soil again would just be too much.

Go Bokke!

Sorry I have to disagree sandman. Yeah it was a good consolidation - but then Kallis only got out after around 17 overs. Our hitters had no chance to play themselves in for a few balls, and the RRR was already 13 at that point.

I'd rather we were 120 all out but having gone down fighting. But that's just my opinion I guess.

No we did well and look a fine team just a couple changes need to be made.

Bring in bloody abdullah for duminy in the t20 format from now on. Should make morgoth happy :D, kallis is still fine as his innings held us together i suppose but duminy i dunno hey, good 50 over player :p

Damn you kallis and duminy for batting so Damn slow :(.

anyways peace ladies, going to be hard to sleep with all this anger. :(.

+100

They should've attacked and had enough wickets in hand. Duminy should've gone after everything - connect = great we score, miss = great Morkel comes in. They waited too long!

Yes agreed but 13 an over in the last 3 overs in this format of the game is on... What killed us was the early pressure, 3 wickets for 16 runs from 21 balls faced by Gibbs, AB and Smith. In a situation like that in such a short game you always playing catchup. Had we lost another wicket around then we may have capitulated a lot sooner. Had Kallis timed his shot better and got 6 instead of out he would have steered us home. These games are on such a knifes edge but you simply cannot blame Kallis or JP for the defeat when your spinners went for 9 to the over and when your top order collapsed as tamely as it did...
