Official ICC World T20 thread

Despite Kallis top-scoring and at a decent strike rate, he faced nearly half of the balls of the innings. Chances are, a Morkel could have come in and blazed like 30 off 15 of those. As always, I blame him most...

Well duminy and kallis did nothing as well, they never helped us, got good scores but never helped. When you let a run rate get too 12 before deciding to play shots you may as well have gone out for a duck!!!!!!!

I would rather they went out like the others than played 5 day cricket.

Yea that kiss was awesome from afridi, pity it did not make kallis want to destroy their attack.

Lol did you see Kallis face?:p

But why? I think Kallis is the most equiped to face Ajmal, Afridi and Gul... they would have finished the other batsmen....

Albie did not fail, you need half a chance to come off, he never got it

gibbs AB and smith at least went out swinging and looking positive, far more than can be said of the 5 day pair

Anyways SA and world cup final seems words we may never hear so anyways good tournament as you say.

Fair enough. Albie was put under a huge amount of pressure. But it doesnt change the fact that most of our batsmen went for very low scores except kallis. They all should have scored more runs.

Ohwell

Atleast we still have an awesome team. I'm looking forward to a few longer games for a change. I'm perfectly sure we will dominate in the future. One day our time will come, just like it will for the all blacks. :D

As mentioned above, he came in and played slowly, as he often does. So the rate went up and up leaving too much to do at the end, when he wasn't even there any more.

If you are gonna face half the balls of a 20/20 innings, you need to make more than 60 odd.

Best equipped to block and run singles yes, not the best equip to hit them for 18 in an over nor did he try until he looked up and saw 12 runs an over

Best equipped is someone who can take them for 6-8 runs an over not someone who goes into their shell and hits 3 an over, i do not care what anyone says the partnership between kallis and duminy lost this game and yes without them we may have lost by more but we lost anyhow so how did they help help, they only made us lose by 10 or whateva but 10 or 100 runs short you lose

When i saw 82 off 48 i knew we were in kuk, then i watched duminy and kallis take 3 runs in the next 6 balls, they did not think 12 or 13 was a problem what with gul coming on or they did not care.

I am not upset we lost i am upset because we never gave ourselves a chance to win because played 5 day cricket :(

As i said i have seen kallis come in before with a decent run rate and destroy it, exactly what happened last night, as hj says you need to make more runs off half the deliveries in an innings, his innings was exactly why they dropped him last
year.

They didnt attack Razzak(WTF was up with that guy? He looked like he was drugged up!!!!!)

:)

I thought he was half asleep both batting and bowling. :D

So wait, in your mind 1 run off 5 balls (SR = 20) is more positive than 64 runs at a SR of 120?

We lost by 7 runs. Smith had 4 wasted balls and Ab also had 4 wasted balls - that's the 8 runs we needed to win.

And Kallis? You can't tell me that in the 50 odd balls he faced, there weren't more that weren't wasted? Blocked for quick singles instead of hit to the boundary...

Did you see the game? Kallis did score 64 off 54 which in my books is well done. They guys around him should have had a slog a bit ealier.

Yes, 64 off 54 is not good enough. Not in 20/20. Not any more. Neither is blocking and going at three an over allowing the rate to climb.

If that were a 50 over game knock, it would have been fine. But it wasn't. Then we lost.

Yes I saw the other batsmen do a lot better

Like I said the others should have played around him..... He was the only batsmen making us look good yesterday.

I agree devil but kallis has a brain and could see duminy had no clue, why did he not step up and say fine i will be the slogger? He was set playing well, why i ask can kallis never be the man to win the games for us?

I said it long ago without gibbs getting us off to a good start we would lose an important game because kallis does not know how to club a ball and win a match, he only knows how to keep his stats looking great.

You completely missed my point:

Smith got 10 off 14 balls --> 14 - 10 = 4 wasted balls.
AB got 1 off 5 balls --> 5 - 1 = 4 wasted balls.

Yip thats the answer.

Everyone knows that kallis is the stabilizer who the other batsmen are supposed to bat around.

We know that, and the players in the team know it.

If kallis tried to slog more we would have been bowled out for much less than we got. The safest thing he could do was to try and hold things together while the other players took the needed risks to get the runs. Smith hit two balls high into the air trying to slog. Gibbs tried to push it and he got out. AB came in and tried the same. When duminy got in he correctly tried to stop the fall of wickets through safe batting and more running between wickets. Sadly when we tried to get away we just couldnt and we ended only 7 runs short.

Overall we timed it quite close as we have done throughout this tournament. Today was just not our day and we ended close, but not far enough. In hindsight we should have kicked on a bit sooner. Ending a game with 6 wickets in hand is not how you want to do it.

What caused our downfall is that previosly in the tournament when we tried to play it safe it worked everytime. The players believed it would work again.

Eish, the sangoma lady got us again. HAMBA

Yea airwolf fair enough but kallis could see the run rate blowing out well after those okes had gone why did he not step up and say fine i either go big or go home? Duminy as well just seemed happy to get singles, it is as if neither said ok i am going big, they both just push singles hoping their 3 runs an over would not push the rate above 12 :p

Playing safe you will lose as was shown by kallis and duminy.

The answer to your question lies in the quality bowling of the Paki's.

nope we allowed them to hit their area's, we played defensive which meant their bowling looked great, we never attemped to move around, double step, nothing.

Stand and deliver will always make the bowling team look good as will playing defensive cricket, we fail all the time because we would rather lose playing defensive than lose playing positive attacking cricket

Yes because gul did not bowl 5/6 balls in the one over in the blockhole.....

Look killa I am sure you can slog even shane warne but good bowling it was...

Maybe you should go and show them how its done, you play for a nattional side don't you?
