So, my G2 arrived. 
Build quality is quite a bit better than I expected. In hand feel is also really good- the rear buttons are quite intuitive to use.
The screen is eye-wateringly bright and clear, and I am really impressed with the panel.
Won't have a chance to play with it yet, but first on the agenda is root

+1. TWRP definitely the way to go on a G2. Once you have that on, everything is simple. I love the ability to queue zips for flashing.

The screen is a highlight for me, enough that I put the iPad Mini aside for reading on now. I don't think it's quite as accurate or close to the glass as an iPhone5/s/c screen but the white and black contrast is excellent, plus the size and greater PPI together make readability so much better than the S4 or iPhone. you'll also find that the battery life is excellent.

There should be a few calibration mods available to get the screen displaying closer to 2.2. I'll have to investigate- I have already noticed the closer to AMOLED levels of saturation on the G2. The Nexus 5, oddly enough, was very well calibrated.
But I am surprised at how easy it is to use the 5.2" screen with one hand. Far easier than I expected.
I'll see if I can root and flash it tonight, the LG UI is too similar to Touchwiz for my tastes. The OnePlus One port looks a pretty good option for a starting ROM

I had a feeling that TricksterMod would work, but I'll have to check what the differences between the way the Nexus 5 and G2 handle gamma correction are. Perhaps I can salvage some of my previous scripts.

I just did a basic calibration in Trickster from that thread (Red, 254
Green ,255
Blue, 223)
It's hard to know how to measure the gammas and so on with the screen though so I can't take it much further, it's unexplored territory to me.

It's difficult without a colorimeter, but the previous profiles I used on the Nexus 5 were done by someone that had access to one. I was happy enough with them, my display certainly looked as good (and in many scenarios) as an iPhone display, which is the benchmark for me.
The G2 has rather good calibration out of the box, though. Not quite as good as the Nexus 5, but rather good in its own right.

Honestly, I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet!
I'll most likely only have time at the weekend to really play around with it.

Updated to Cloudy G3 1.3. The G3 FM radio is now working properly and some cool new little bells and whistles added from the official G3 ROM.
Battery life is still amazing. 56h on time, 3 hours SOT and on 11%.

Brother, I know your pain..
I also dropped mine last week and the glass cracked but the LCD was still perfect, to replace the glass cost me 630, and I got thrown in a cover and screen protector free..
I know this my seem cheap of me, but I took it to Oriental city/china town today, will fetch in two days, will check how it is and will report back..

Nope, battery life is fantastic as per my post 2 posts above. Maybe some 3rd party app draining battery?

Could not work out what was causing it, so I went for a clean flash.
My next question: do you/anyone else leave WiFi and Bluetooth on all day? If so, anything noticeable about battery drain regarding the 1.3.1 version of the ROM?

I always have wifi on and hardly ever use Bluetooth so it's always off.
Mine was totally destroyed, no touch at all.
. Took it to Vodacom world. Person helping me wanted the IMEI number, said he cannot book it in without it. After some frustrated minutes got it eventually booked in. Got SMS today to say it has been moved to advance repair wtf, the screen is not working how difficult can this be to replace the screen. The phone turns on was able to make calls and receive via BT, still no QUOTE on how much it is going to cost. Checked it in on Monday morning.
Wonder how long this is going to ta take.... And cost.
