And our start has not been dismal. We have only conceded one goal (fewer than Pool and Chelski) and have the same number of points as Pool, and a number of other 'big' teams before they play again.

Yeah. It's not bad at all. It's just that we lost to Burnley. If it was Villa, Fulham or even one of the top 3 it wouldn't be bad. But Burnley :/

Yeah, it was not ideal to be sure. But now is the time to set things right. 6 points from 3 games would not be the worst start we have ever had :)

Yeah was a dismal performance to watch - epecially alongside my mate who is a Pool supporter and we were flipping channels between the two games all night :D

As for our midfield not being good enough in the formation I suggested. Just how much helping out of Fletcher and Carrick did Ronaldo do last season?
None, why on earth would he?

Just had to quote this bit especially for when it blows up in your face. What is a dominant midfielder? I presume something along the lines of Lampard/Gerrard or even Fabregas/Arshavin. If so, how have we won up to now?
I meant a destroyer, thought that was obvious since people like Fabregas are rarely called dominant. I most certainly did not mean people like Arshavin, who isn't even really a midfielder, like Gerrard (they can just do a job there). Makelele, Mascherano, Gattuso, Diarra etc.

I don't really understand why you ask how have you won then. You haven't won anything playing 4-4-2 without a proper destroyer, and you will continue to not win anything playing 4-4-2 without a proper destroyer.

4-4-2 is pretty much obsolete. There's a reason almost none of the top teams ever use it.

We used to play 4-4-2.
Butt and Keane made a pretty formidable midfield back in the day. So did Petit - Vieira - Parlour for Arsenal.
If I remember correctly we ended up winning the treble that year with a 4-4-2...
The problem is the public viewing the modern day United aren't used to seeing that formation. Granted with Ronaldo that usually turned into a 4-3-3... but times have changed. Only Sir Alex can change the squad, and I don't think anyone should really question a man that has won 11 EPL titles...

Be honest now, do you think either Carrick or Fletcher are fit to tie Keane's bootlaces?

I spy a dominant midfielder or two in there! Incidentally stubbornly refusing to drop 4-4-2 for so long was a big mistake from Wenger as well. Best football news I've had for months was them moving to 4-3-3. No longer must I endure Denilson play wide-midfielder, thank Jeebus!

I said without a dominant destroyer for a reason, man! It's nothing complicated, you only have two players in the middle, so at least one of them needs to be very, very good.

That treble required remarkable amounts of luck anyway.

The public probably don't know what formation they're seeing, they are notoriously stupid after all (ask Ferguson!). Just tell them it's the formation that Barcelona used whilst dismantling United, should make them happy enough. Don't tell them Berbatov caused a change to a 4-2-3-1 though, that's the same formation Liverpool use, they might not like that!
Granted with Ronaldo that usually turned into a 4-3-3... but times have changed.
Yes, you sold one of the three decent non-defenders in the team, and didn't sign another one permanently. Whoops? At least Michael Owen is banging them in, right?

This forum would be pretty boring if we can't question anyone who's won anything, no?

Besides, Ferguson isn't perfect, he's made little mistakes and huge mistakes (Veron and Scholes in a 4-4-2? Hahahahahaha). He's very good at some things, like motivation and spending lots of money (a harder task than one might assume, see Spurs or Benitez for examples), but he's not so good at other things, such as tactics. Anderson and Carrick your only midfielders against Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets and Messi? That was funny. Taking one of them off and having a decrepit old man* play there instead was good too.

*Disclaimer: Giggs was awesome, and is still pretty damn classy. He's also old though, and shouldn't be starting a Champion's League Final.

Ja... I guess we won't ever find a replacement for Keane. And I know what you mean about a "destroyer". Lol... hey, you make your own luck!

:eek:Barca's midfield would dismantle anyone else's... that's a given! We never did ourselves any favours in that game either.

Honestly, I really didn't think United would win the title this year, but this forum also wouldn't be very interesting if United didn't give us anything to talk about! If Sir Alex does manage it this year, it'll be the greatest league title he's won. Anyhow, I just hope we can score some goals this weekend at least!

Edit. Apologies.

I read the rest of the stuff you said, which makes sense.

Either way, I am still very confident this season. Vidic should start today as well :)

I love Martinez for not being a wuss and actually playing football. If only all the other managers would dare.

It usually leads to relegation though. Hull were the same last season and just escaped the drop.

Hmm United struggling to score again.

Great game. Great for Owen. Could not have asked for more :)

Fergie, that is your starting XI - bring in Rio when he is fit and maybe Fabio for G Neville and you are sorted :)
