thats the thing why spend money on someone who will do the same job as others that we have

i believe a rock CM is what we need

carrick clevs fletcher fellaini are all useless

mata will be played out left if he joins ..cause no one will take over rooneys spot

so a strong cm and 2 wingers is what we need

and defence guys

but Moyes might not even buy ..so all we can do is sit and hope

Sam, Moyes wants players for all those positions im sure but its about availability and suitability. If Mata suits Moyes' plan and is available then why not?

If *you* were the head honcho there at Man U would *you* give Mr Moyes £100m+ to spend on any player(s) *he* wants? Think about it...

Either you do that or fire him? Whats the point in saying you back him and will give him time as the manager if you don't give him money to invest and build the squad his way?

Personally I'd be happy to see Moyes take £100m+ and splurge it on Everton players :D

Realistically speaking, after chasing Baines and paying more than the release clause for Fellaini, I wouldn't be too comfortable handing that kind of money over to him. Rather he identifies what areas he's like to strengthen in and then I (or someone more qualified) would go out and find suitable and available players and then give him the list and tell him to chose.

Ross Barkley for £50m, Seamus Coleman for £20m, Leighton Baines for £12m, Leon Osman for £5m ... :D

Why? Overall he spent well when he was at Everton, Fellaini is one transfer and has played a handful of games, give him some more time before judging.

I don't get the fuss about paying 3mil extra for Fellaini. Everyone makes it sound like it was the worst transfer in history. It wasn't, not even by a long shot.

Sure Fellaini hasn't panned out so far, but nobody could see that. He can still come good, who knows.

This if just my opinion, but Moyes never planned on signing him, it's simply what he was left with after the other deals for midfielders didn't pan out.

Only person not to be trusted with a transfer kitty is Kenny. :p:D

At Everton he worked on a tight budget, now he [apparently] has gazillions to spend. Five year old in a sweet shop with a R200 note comes to mind. Maybe it's just me.

No, not judging Fellaini - at one point I even suggested Wenger should be looking at him but the £4m 'extra' was unnecessary and smacked of desperation and/or poor planning imo.

Up until the Ozil transfer I would have added Wenger to the not to be trusted with the transfer kitty list. Not because he wouldn't spend it wisely but rather because he wouldn't spend it at all :D

Mata is 25.

My bad, clearly not thinking straight.

Have to type this, Glad to see Utd going thru the same issues Pool and too certain extent Arsenal are going or were going through. :D Not sure if it is over yet

And again it begs the question, did Moyes buy Fellaini or did that other guy who is in charge of transfer buy him. Not sure how the structure works at Utd.

Once again, correct me if I am wrong. But Ferguson also usually bought 1 or 2 players to strengthen his squad. So I guess Utd is thinking, why change the strategy.

Mata being heavily linked in the papers at the moment.

Interesting video here, watch until near the end thestaggy Carragher echos my exact views about them needing +-3 top players.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ited-gary-neville-not-sure-he-fits-philosophy

Seems to be polar views on the squad.

Gary Neville echoes Carra;

"I don't think it needs a rebuild, I honestly don't. I think two, three, four players - but the problem is everyone knows they want top players and to get them will be so difficult because nobody wants to sell them."

Kind of contradicts himself by not saying it needs a rebuild but goes on stating they need ''two, three, four players''. Also, Moyes disagrees.

"They need a midfield player or two, it's obvious," added Neville.

"They've lost Anderson on loan, Darren Fletcher has just come back, Paul Scholes has retired, Owen Hargreaves left a year and a half ago - they haven't strengthened in that area.

"They were playing a centre-back in midfield today with Phil Jones, but it's not the only area. They need to get Wayne Rooney and Van Persie fit too.

"I think it's a squad that needs an impetus and when you sign players at a squad it brings a new lease of life to everybody and that's what it needs to me, not a rebuild. There's a lot of good young talent there.

"I think if they could go and sign four top players for huge money in the next week I think they would go and do it straight away. I think the problem is getting them.

Four new starters may not be a complete overhaul but it is a significant shake up that a club of United's caliber shouldn't need at this point of the season. Clubs that need four players by mid season are usually at the wrong end of the table or simply not up to scratch.

On the other hand Robbie Savage has a far more extreme squad review and a view I'm largely inclined to agree with. Aside from his opinions about Valencia & Fellaini, I think he is pretty much spot on. The squad is simply not up to the standard required to be the best in England. I don't think you can carry out the immediate overhaul Savage advocates, but gradually, over 2 seasons I believe you would be justified in clearing out pretty much most of the current squad because they are just not good enough.

Moyes saw the holes before the season even started. He wanted a midfielder and a left back. Those two positions were not adequately addressed (CM) or not addressed at all (LB) and have since been a major problem. Worse still, even more holes have popped up.

Add 2/3 players now then offload a few over the hill and under performing players in the summer and bring in another 3/4 players. Not all of them need to be superstar starters, but they need to provide better depth than the current bunch do.

I'd honestly take a mid-table pair of Tom Huddlestone and Adam Lallana over any current midfield combination at United based on how they are all playing and they're not even a world class pair.

2-4 players are more a tweak than a complete rebuild or half the squad as you put it. As for Moyes' assessment, note how he states the rebuild will happen over the coming months and years.

PS: Robbie Savage is an idiot.

That jus shows how low the bar is set with the best Midfielder at United

I went on to agree with saying that it would take two seasons or more, still does not change the fact that I interpret United's squad as quantity but not quality. Maybe 3/4 of them would stand a chance of starting for City or Chelsea. The rest would do well to make the bench at those respective clubs.

Why is Savage an idiot?

At this point I'll agree to disagree with you on our assessments of the squad.

I'll agree with you that this season Carrick hasn't been what he was. Injuries and lack of solid game time with a dependable partner have not made it easy. At 33 his replacement needs to be identified and brought in soon.

I also agreed with his assessment in this way. Other than Valencia and Fellaini, the rest should be out the door.

I did mention that Huddlestone would be a decent buy. He has been in great form.
