Moyes isn't bad when he is the underdog.

Also, if Fellaini wasn't ball watching when Schweinsteiger scored the goal, Utd could probably have won the game.

Get us on the counter? Bayern have two of the fastest wingers in the world in Ribery and Robben.

United pushed up a few times which gave Bayern the perfect chance to counter against us.

Instead they were more than happy to pass the ball from left to right, trying to disorganise our defense but it didn't work.

Did you expect United to play an open passing game.
Just like his Barca side, pep's Bayern starves you of possession and when you don't have the ball you defend. Against a team of Bayern's talent everyone needs to put in a shift.
It's not like United were defending and when they got the ball the hoofed it up the pitch and waited for the next attack. With the little possession they managed they used it to go and create chances.

I think his naturally cautious approach to football is exactly the type of football that will see you do well in Europe. Until of course you need to get past the likes of Bayern, Real Madrid and Barca.

They definitely let the win slip between Welbeck and Fellaini.
 
End of the day it's difficult to keep up with bayern and barca for ball possession so we soacked up the pressure and played counter attack football not our best moments but under Moyes I dunno

I think last night was Utd's best performance under Moyes so far.

Interesting stat; for all their possession Bayern only created 5 chances inside the box, the EXACT same amount as United.

With all the defensive frailties this season on top of an injury crisis, I expected the tie to be over last night.
At least we go to Munich with a chance, although I must admit, I'm not very optimistic about it. Either way it might be the last Champions league game for a while, so I'll just enjoy the ride.
 
The plus for United is that Bayern have two players who will miss the next leg. We need to put in the same performance next week and we'll go through.

The best I was honestly hoping for was a fighting defeat in the order of 2-1/3-1. Quite crazy that they were Welbeck/Fellaini not being numbnuts away from a win.

Away is going to be tough, but one positive is that Pep will have to tweak the midfield as both Martinez and Schweinsteiger will be out. I'd be inclined to start with Kagawa as well, he did add a little spring. Not sure who I will sacrifice in the middle. Giggs has his physical & defensibe limitations but his experience could be invaluable. Fellaini, with all his wayward passing and defensive nap when Bayern equalised, was vital in making it that little bit harder for Bayern to find space in the middle. Maybe try Fletcher & Kagawa as a Midfield 3? Rooney as the link between midfield and Welbeck again?

The exact same team that did 1078 passes with 82% possession 16 shots 4 on target 3 goals. A team that is lying 7 from the bottom in the Bundesliga

Against United they managed 16 shots 3 on target 1 goal iwth 74% possession

Not exactly the most exciting football now is it?

Except you haven't. Using one game's lineup to illustrate context across an entire season doesn't cut it, especially when it's not the timeline we're referencing.

Yes and no. There is a lack of quality in some younger players, that isn't a biggy. All clubs have this, they're fringe players who aren't thought of as first teamers, but as fill-ins. It's impractical and pretty much impossible to have an entire squad made up of first-team quality players. What I'm talking about is the discrepancy in the ages between our top players, an era leaving, and the era coming in. I consider some of the younger players to be future first-teamers, but not yet ready to be in the first team. This is what I meant by your illustration of City's players versus ours, as in they have an entire first team in their prime, averaging out the age to around 28, while we have older players who are instrumental to our first team, balanced out with younger players who might not be ready to be in the first team, bringing down our average age.

To some extent, but not as first team regulars, and definitely not in the roles they'll be playing in. Smalling as RB. Jones as CDM. This is my point.

And all I was pointing out was that he does have a penchant for promoting youth when he feels it's necessary. I never said he was perfect, just that the 'fact' (not put out by you) that he doesn't promote youth is nonsense.
 
Comparing the current season to this point last season;

54 points would see United 6th, 4 points off of 3rd place. Everton's 60 points would see them 2 points off of second spot.
 
It's difficult to say we had some good moments but it has to be Welback goal but unfortunately disallowed really bad decision from the ref
 
Welbeck is kark! he needs to go! If it was Hernandez, Rooney, RVP that would have been goal
