Very happy, one of the few performances i can be proud of this season. Credit where credits due, we were set up well and kept a good shape whilst playing a bit on the break, pretty much spot on.

Will answer your previous post tomorrow, watched the game and now I've got work to do :o

Geez. .....ok

I hope we keep this form though. Too often we flatter to decieve with one *better* performance often followed by some atrocious games. Here's hoping Cleverly doesn't play in Munich.

No problems :)

So in essence, we're getting better and better...

I wouldnt go that far, its often a couple good performances, only for the really bad to come back.

Trolling or serious?

The midfield has issues i dont doubt that, but i also know they are much better than you're giving them credit for. Cleverly was actually pretty good last season, he had some really good games against City, Arsenal , Newcastle etc. Fletcher is also a good player (granted we dont know how much the his injury has effected him), add to that Moyes paid 27 million for Fellaini. Our attacking players on paper are the best in the league imo, tell me who has Kagawa, Januzaj, Rvp , Rooney, Mata, Hernandez and Welbeck to choose from? Chelsea have no real striker to talk of yet they are challenging, its a testament to a proper manager who can take a squad with obvious deficiencies in attack and defence and still be competitive.

Yes, they are spoilt for choice in the the #10 and striking positions, but the glaring weaknesses and deficiencies are in the midfield and wide positions, so for all their prowess the support and service they get is not as good as it can be. Also, the midfield was found wanting at times under Fergie as well.

The wide options are equally limited. Januzaj seems to be a real talent, but he's nowhere near the finished product. No reason why he cannot play on the left for the next 10-years, but right now he's no Silva/Hazard/Ribery. Mata and Kagawa are not wingers and do not perform when out wide. Nani is the eternal enigma. Not even Fergie coaxed consistency out of him. You know what he can do, he has shown you before, but he just cannot do it regularly. At 27 he should be hitting his straps, but he's the same inconsistent Nani. Valencia is probably second only to Rooney in terms of work rate. He will never stop and is sound defensively. He has supreme pace too, BUT, he comes up short in the attacking 3rd. He just cannot provide the killer pass when he gets himself into position. And then there's Young. Like Nani, he is at the age where he should be at his best, but since his first season at United he's been disappointing. When I look at our wingers - excluding the developing Januzaj - I see guys that fit the bill of squad player. Not stars. More than enough ability to do the job Saturday at home to Villa, allowing your star to relax and prepare for the big game against Bayern on Tuesday.

Defensively, the weaknesses are obvious. We have 3 CBs who are not of World Class standard attempting to replace two aged stars. Furthermore, 2 of the 3 CBs are routinely played out of position, and this was done under Fergie as well, so there may be development issues when it comes to maturing into solid, reliable CBs. As for Evra, he's either lost a step or is just not interested. He's done this before - half-arsed it - and it was why Fergie brought in Buttner. Rafael to me is the closest United have to a star defensively.

On the whole, stepping away from the glut of talent at #9 and # 10, the squad is very blue-collar. Man-for-man, few of them will be mentioned along with the best outside of #1, #9 & #10. I've said it of the team for the past two seasons; United has a very big squad, a solid squad, but it isn't a squad of stars. That may have been its strengths though. Few egos and the willingness to do what was necessary to win. Add in a manager unlike no other that could coax an extra 10 - 20% out of his grafters and you had a winner. That's changed now. There is no other Fergie out there. My immediate predictions when Moyes arrived and when evaluating the squads was that Chelsea & City will contend for the title while United will get caught up in a tussle with Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool for the remaining Champions League spots. I'd say Moyes is 10-points worse off than I felt this squad without Fergie deserves.

I've also said enough about this now, so for the sake of us not having to end up repeating ourselves I'm going to agree to disagree with you. We have differing opinions on Moyes and the talent at hand and we won't change one another's opinions, and that is okay.

I'm a little disappointed, actually.

I understand why Moyes went with Giggs-Carrick-Fellaini but had he have started with Kagawa over Giggs or Fellaini, I reckon they could have done Bayern. No doubt there was extra energy in the second-half after the tactical switch, albeit an injury motivated one.

Fellaini had a 50-50 game. Horrible when in possession and he lost Schweinsteiger, but he had a number of crucial headers and blocks in the first half when under pressure, so yes he gave away possession and may have been guilty of losing Bastian, but Giggs or even Kagawa in his position may have afforded Bayern more attacking opportunities.

Fellaini's never going to be a star, but I think he'll have value as a squad player for when the team needs to tackle the likes of Stoke, Hull & West Ham and doesn't want to risk the classy midfielder(s) I'm sure the manager will be bringing in. Pity about the price tag though.

Talk all you want about this and that and whatever.

Bayern is probably the best team in Europe at this moment and Utd gave them a good run for their money, was a great game to watch from a neutral perspective.

Can someone tell me how someone as poor as Fellaini can get into that team? He's a joke, every time he gets the ball he loses it.

Utd played a good game and Bayern underestimated you guys. that's what happen when you over confident. well played by utd. the match clearly showed utd's weaknesses and the different class between the teams.

It also showed Bayern's ineffectiveness to put the ball in the back of the net despite all their possession?

Very reminiscent of some of Barca's games under Pep. Tons of possession but no end product.

Last season Bayern would've destroyed us.

I thought this as well- as much as Pep has improved the passing side of their game, he has robbed them of their efficiency.

But well done United. Great performance, if only Welbeck and the ref had not conspired to rob you of a deserved victory.

Probably get laughed at for saying this but watching the first half last night reminded me of Arsenal a few seasons back. No, really. Especially when Man U scored - it was definitely like watching Arsenal.

Stickfigure sums it up: "Tons of possession but no end product."

Pep got his ideas from Wenger before he went off the rails

How do you expect Bayern to have loads of end product against a team that puts 10 men behind the ball?

This just dawned on me;

Pep and his 1,000 passes of tika-taka football needed to resort to old-school 'cross it to the big number 9 so he can knock it down for a player following up' in order to get a result.

LOL!

The best team in football was thwarted by 'ol Moysey and I love it. Even better was Pep having to go back to old school #9-orientated football to get a result.

Hopefully they don't get walloped in Munich though.
