That should become available on Thursday...broad outline in the article, but not the individual channels.

great news! lets hope they start building towards decent competition for multichoice :) atleast make multichoice pay a decent price for keeping all the sports when the rights have to get renewed!

Multichoice rips us off. There's no doubt about that, but if you guys think you are going to get the latest shows, movies, documentaries and/or top sporting events from ODM, you're dreaming. People complain about waiting 4-6 months for a show to air on DSTV after it has been shot and aired in the US. Well you can expect a 3 to 4 year wait with ODM.

Personally, I think ODM will do pretty well if their channel line up is decent. The low end of the market is under-served. They don't mind waiting a few years for shows, because all they've had is SABC 1/2/3 and etv. I don't think too many DSTV Premium Subcribers will switch to ODM. They might downgrade to DSTV Compact or Select, but they ain't gonna move.

Welcome ODM. I wish you the best of luck, but I warn you the market is tough and the goodwill generated by being the company who ended the monopoly will fade fast especially if you don't deliver. Just ask (imminent) Neotel. VIVA Competition.

PS> I'm bracing myself for the barrage of insults. Don't worry I'm ready. I just hope you guys think before posting insults.

I cannot wait for thursday, lets hope they give us something to at least consider another installer with their channel offerings...if it includes SyFy, I'll definitely move

Looks like a sound model. I expect them to do well if they do what they say.
I think they have a good target audience and they are even admitting they see a big need for sport.
I'm glad they are here.

Niche Sport :\ Seems like i have to stick with DSTV for quite a while longer. Can't understand why they can't just buy Setanta sports signal and broadcast that. I understand multichoice hold the rights to broadcast stuff, but surely its time that two broadcasters can now show the same content ?

What's the chance on competing with DSTV ? Would this be another NeoTel (read Tata) - it has a similar "look" to it ? One can only hope.

Rugby and Soccer (All leagues) thats where the money is, without that it will be difficult to justify paying that money.

When in May will they launch? 1 May, 31 May, will it even be May 2010? Would be nice if they could update their website.

Was it just me that read they will start off with SABC 1,2,3 and ETV, LOL, what a load of BS, why not start with all?

I reckon they will phail, sorry but i do, i wish/hope they dont, but they will.

That is their tarket market:
Initially ODM plans to launch a basic service aimed at the lower LSM markets which currently have access to SABC 1, 2, 3 and eTV.

No mention on any HD content :(

I wish these guys would learn... Half the planet is buying HD compatible TV's... How about broadcasting some bladdy content...

I strongly considered this option, as I am soon moving into my new home, but I really need my sport, so I think I will go multiChoice

Non-HD widescreen content on a newish DSTV decoder looks pretty damn good on a 1080p LCD. Sure, HD will look better, but first they need to establish themselves properly.
