Sorry for this stupid question but I'm curious about the online gaming option in PS3. I'm about to buy one, with GT5, and apparently I will be able to race online against other users? How do I connect my PS3 to the network? I have a laptop and I use a spare cellphone as 3G modem to connect to the internet, will that be of any use or does the PS3 have it's own built-in modem? Please help...! Thanks
After having just done the online setup, etc myself, I can maybe share a few words

:
1) The PS3 does NOT have its own built in modem. It can connect to a network via LAN cable, or via wireless.
2) Given the devices that you mention, you'll need to connect your laptop to the internet through your phone, however you may do that (if you don't know, now's about a good time to google

). But I'm assuming that you do already know how to do this step.
3) Once connected to the internet on your laptop, you'll need to share your internet connection. This depends on your operating system - another google session if you don't know how... its pretty simple, and I've done it in both Ubuntu and CentOS

- shout if you need some assistance...
4) Once the internet connection is shared, go over to the console, and ensure that the LAN cable is plugged in. I personally tried the wireless setup, but couldn't establish a connection to my wireless router, even though the router was sitting right next to the PS. So i gave up and just plugged in the LAN cable...
5) On the Playstation menu, you'll need to navigate to System Settings, Internet Settings (or something like that - don't have in front of me at the moment), and ensure that the option "Allow Connection to Internet" (or something similar) is set to "ON". Then select the Internet Settings, and proceed through the setup of the connection to the network. I happened to leave everything set to "automatic/default" which worked for my network, but if you have your network setup in a particluar way, then now the time to enter those details.
6) After all of that, a connection test will be performed, and if successful, then you can access the internet from your PS3... Now simply sign up!
Thats from what I remember... but its very simple - took all of 5 minutes to setup. Once you're setup and have a sign-in account, then after loading the game and launching it, there should be an option to sign in/play online. Use that option, and go play against some real people
