Official PS3 Discussion/News Thread - No bashing!!

Hi there.

Ive been trying to find a solution to my PS3 slow internet speed problem without any help.

So here goes.

PS3 has latest updates, as does my router (Netgear DGN 632) (soon new netgear DGN2000).

I have a 4 meg line which runs at about 3.1 megs (speedtest.net) on my pc. but here lies the problem.
as soon as i connect the ethernet cable to the back of my PS3 and try play fifa10 online, do speed tests on the net,
do the connection test on PS3 console then the line speed if lucky gets 400k.

I set up the wired connection automatically so have not changed anything. Trying to play fifa10 online is a joke, whereas any
games on the pc even overseas is a breeze.

How do i set the PS3 and router up so that the PS3 uses all the available bandwidth i have? do i need to port forward and how do i do that?

I'm not too sure, but my boet had a similiar issue. turned out to be his router. Nothing wrong with it, it just "throttled" his Ps3 speed. Changed the router and got full speed?

Sorry to say, but it isn't awesome. I proudly buy all my games, and don't want a backup system, because it will just open the doors for piracy.
Sony's new firmware update will also be the first step to putting a stop to this, and finding any people using the jailbreak system and blacklisting them from the PSN.
 
When I stream movies to my PS3 from my PC through media server which is MS media player it says file corrupted. It does this for all my divx movies.Whats the problem with this?
 
Why does the PS3 have to have such long loading times :-/.
I am so used to PC gaming that when i go play something on my PS3 it feels like watching paint dry.

Just got Red Dead Redemption and the loading itmes are RIDICULOUS! Wish Sony would allow you to install games onto the Hard Drive :(

You know with a litte googling (PSGroove) and a little cash you could load and play the game from the hard drive. Just as long as you don't plan to play online.

I am aware of this thanks. But i don't agree with it. Why am i paying more to make something that should not be THIS bad work better?

Ha I am not telling you to go out and pirate the game.

You have a PS3 right?
Yor PS3 has a HDD right?
You have the orginal RDR game right?

So whats wrong with using it to its fullest? Why should you suffer becasue of lazy programmers.

Not going to spend money on something i shouldn't need just to enjoy a game :).

I have a PS3 and Red Dead is my favourite game. What load times are you talking about? The game doesn't take long to get to the main menu, and loading single player from there doesn't take long enough that it's ever bothered me. From that point there's pretty much no load times at all, except a few seconds when quick travelling. Multiplayer's load times aren't much worse.

Yeah, but not much. Episodes From Liberty City and Civ 5 are the only games I play frequently. Seriously, I've only had a PS3 for a few months. Not even from day one have the load times bothered me. The only prob I have is with NHL 11, which takes ages to sign in to EA's server before presenting the main menu. And that's probably just my connection speed more than anything.

Ah ok. If you really want HORRIBLE load times play Mod Nation Races. Bloody stupid game only because of the load times.
 
GTA - Episodes From Liberty City takes rather long to load. I normally start it up and then go have a quick smoke or get something to drink (usually both). Haven't gamed on a PC in years (literally) so I can't compare.

Funny you should mention that. I traded Lego Harry Potter and R70 cash for ModNation Racers little over an hour ago. Second hand but in like new condition. Played it for a few minutes, but can't get stuck in until holidays start next Monday. The creation tools are sick, and the racing is pretty decent. Nice party game. But yeah, the load times didn't impress. I can imagine it will get annoying when I'm playing the career mode.

Maybe he's got a scratched disc?
 
Played Dead Rising 2 last night. Numerous scene changes and subsequent lengthy load times really suck. Didn't take long for frustration to creep in. . .
 
So ModNation Racers downloaded nearly a gig of updates. I looked up why, and load times have been decreased by 30% and the super hard AI has been fixed. Those were my only gripes about the game. Awesome!
