So ilI got my phone back from samsung yesterday.. they dont want to budge on that water damage claim...
Anyway. I plugged it into the charger.. And it charged... :D
Switched on no hassles... BUT now the home button doesnt work... :mad:
And it seems the microphone is too soft... (thats what the person on the other end of the line says)... :(

I can't contest this since I dont have the money or time.. Baisically my word against theirs..

Will be using it anyway... Untill I can fix her myself...
 
Extra case

So I pick up my none the other day. Thinking about a case on the way to the store. Then voila a case shrinkwrapped to the box.
Get home and open main box...wtf another case inside.
Would have been happier with an sd card instead.

So what's the point of two cases?

Thanks for the direction Mike, it wouldn't root with the first two options. Had to use the pc odin route and now I am rooted :)

Been installing tweaks like mad. I see you guys mention mobile odin. Did you pay the 46 odd rands for it? and is it really need if you have cwm and rom manager? Still try to learn the roles of each of these apps.

Just two things I miss about my iphone.... the power button at the top and the speed between each photo taken.

Mobile Odin is worth the cash dude. Especially if you become a flashaholic like me :)
 
I am back on CM9. The official ICS just felt to bloated and was a bit laggy. Will try again when the devs at XDA have tweaked the kak out of it :)
 
lol ... I got my Note, rooted it within the 1st hour, unrooted it and then did the official update ... not sure if I want to downgrade and re-root ... pretty happy with the thing how it is. If MIUI had it on their list... might consider....

Sure its got a bigger screen but that is all.
Oh and im not trolling, im honestly wondering.

At a glance... Note can take a MicroSD, has a bigger screen, has a slightly better resolution and a better front facing camera.
Aside from the camera, the other 3 points are big for me.
The One X has a faster proc, but to date I have not needed it - yet.
If I were to go for a quad core device, I think I would probably go for the S3. One X is a good device though. No doubt about it.

Ahh, I mentioned the one X because it is already available. I was going to get a note, been due for upgrade for 3 months now but probably going to wait for the S3. Its painful waiting though!
The S3 will probably also have better rom support, the devs always hit the most popular platform.
 
Hey mike, does the s-pen apps work with cm9? is that the rom that you are currently using?

Also who actually uses droidwall and lte privacy guard? It just caused more problems than good. It kept blocking my whatsapp from my contacts. Weird even tho I went into their setting and allowed access lots of times.

Anybody using juice defender?

Have you tried MIUI at all? not sure about the pen apps but it has a great firewall built in and it has support for turning off data at certain limits.
 
Hi everyone

First post here after having lurked for quite some time.

I've had my Galaxy Note for a month now and its an awesome phone. Like many of you, I also don't wait too long before I root and flash my phone with something different from xda-developers and having come from an HTC Desire, I'm no stranger to flashing my phone. Since getting the Note, I've now had 3 or 4 different versions of ICS on it with the latest being the "official" Samsung update for the German sales code phones but I've removed it and gone back to the latest official Gingerbread ROM available here in SA.

The trouble I've had with the official ICS update (and the ALBY ICS repack (pre-LPY)) was that there were no APNs listed in the Mobile Networks settings and correspondingly, no data connection available to the phone other than Wifi (where I knew the WPA/WEP key).

Other than this I have no beef with with the official ICS update and can reiterate what others have said about it being better, smoother, faster, etc. than Gingerbread but not having mobile data available to me away from a WIFI network is just not on, so thats why I dumped it and went back to the Gingerbread ROM.

Has anyone else come across this updating to the new official ICS ROM and, if you could, how did you fix it?

I applied online through MTN on Sunday, got a call from them yesterday, and will have the Note before 12 today apparently.

As an absolute noob when it comes to Android/anything too IT-related, is there a startup guide anywhere that's easy to understand?

Its so easy to use, you will be fine within 20 minutes....

Best Tip:
Get a gmail account, sync all your contacts to gmail. Never lose them again!

Nah, I'm not talking about just phone use, I'm talking about going from knowing nothing (practically) about Android, to installing ICS in the near future.
 
is MIUI available for the the Note. I remember looking somewhere and it said it wasn't supported?
 
MIUI still not available, checked yesterday :(

@Randhir, its seriously easy to operate. If you are going to root etc, its a little more involved. ICS will come via the system update, so that will be a matter of clicking download and update (when the official is pushed). The market or "Play Store" as its called now is also very simple to navigate and download stuff (you need your google account i.e gmail setup first to access it). But in general, settings, apps, all the goodness of Android is very easy to learn.
