Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

My note wont charge.... :( got a weird battery icon on screen the other day... tried removing battery, cleaning contacts... And leaving it to rest for 24hrs... No difference...So I Phoned Samsung.. And had it booked in at their sandton office... I'm Noteless this weekend..

Please update us when you get it back. Would be nice to know the fault so maybe we can avoid it. Best of luck with the phone!

Was a missions to find one. Even called Samsung SA who said that they dont have them and dont know when they will get them. So I eventually just bought one of bid or buy for R6399 (imported)

This is a quick and dirty how to for you guys that want to root and/or go to ICS.
I have done it this way so you guys at least have something to work with and direct links to the relevant XDA threads.
In time I will update this how to to include all relevant steps if required.
If you have any problems please let me know. If you flash a ROM and have issues with the ROM then please read the relevant thread at XDA.

1. Root your stock Galaxy Note. Also installs CWM (Clockworkmod).
If your device is already rooted go to step 2 (GB) or step 3 (ICS).

.Download and install Samsung Kies. This is just to get the right drivers on your PC.
.Thread for rooting. I used this same method on Sat to root/cwm a mates new Note. Worked perfectly.
.Install Mobile Odin on your phone. You will need this later.

2. Flash a custom Gingerbread ROM.

.IMO CheckROM is the best GingerBread ROM. Feel free to try others.
.Actual CheckROM download thread.

3. Flash a custom ICS ROM. Make sure you have a rooted Gingerbread ROM on FIRST (Follow Step 1)!!

.You need to flash Chainfire ICS Repack if you want a perfect and rooted ICS ROM.
You only need to do this once. From here you can flash any other ICS ROM and keep root.
.I am currently using this Cyanogenmod 9 ROM.
My other favourite is Stunner.

I'm about to try this, but I need some advice.

I currently have Checkrom V5 on my note, but its sluggish and driving me crazy. The delay between pressing a button and the response is about a second. Often when taking the phone out of sleep mode I look at a black screen for 5 seconds or more between the swipe to unlock and when the launcher finally loads. I am using the stock launcher again because I thought maybe the other launcher I was using was the problem.

I just want a rom that works without the hard work. I have been thinking of changing to checkrom V6 so see if that was any better, but now I'm thinking maybe ics will be better.
Should I change to ics or am I in for hard work trying to make it good?

In short, I'm looking for a rom that looks good and just works. What should I use?

So... got a call from robtronic, the Samsung agents, they claim, my phone has TRACES of water damage on the main board...! And its beyond economical repair..
HOW? WHAT? WHEN? WHERE? WHY?

No surprise here for me. Friend of mine has the same claim with a SGSII! :(
He says its a common fault on the SGSII after Googling it.
Was hoping this was fixed with the note.
Sorry to hear bro!!! :(

What did he do? Is there anyone else who can sort my note out?

Friend just replied with this ...
"DIY dude ...
Some isopropyl and ear buds and tooth picks, basically u need to clean the USB connector
That's it :)
It worked for me but it isn't fool proof :("

The worst possible thing in the world happened to me this weekend. I dropped my note, and it fell flat on its face, cracking the glass. :(

The screen itself is fine, and its really just a hairline crack in the front-glass. My phone is insured, but I am not sure what to do. Do I send it in for repairs and be without a phone for a month, only to have it come back with more things wrong with it? I don't know if this is unfounded or not, but I have very little faith in the the ability of our technicians here in SA to fix a delicate device like this.

The agents in Durban are TM Electronics. Has anyone had any experience with these guys?

OK so I decided to give ICS another shot, as I figured the roms should be a bit more stable from when I tried them a month ago.

My verdict: Perfect! Exactly zero force closes in just under a week. Dramatically improved battery performance. Remarkably responsive user interface.

Seriously. If you're not on ICS yet, do it now. I'm using ICS Stunner.

I changed back to Stunner last night. Awesome ROM.

I alternate between CM9 and Stunner as each one updates. Helps to take care of the flash addiction :)

Does S Memo work on stunner ?
edit : see on the stunner site it does not...How does the replacement app work,is it any good ?

i would wait for the official ICS update for the note, its said that there will be major improvement not like what we've seen on the S2

Arrrr ... got impatient on waiting for the One X release date (supposedly first week of June). So seeing I love my Galaxy Tab 10.1 so much, just decided to order the Note.... first thing I do when it comes it root & flash!
