Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

Also the proud new owner of a Note and took a few days to get use to the size but now I am hooked. Biggest chalenge is to hold on to it when I get home as the family fights over who gets to play first :)

Anyone using NoLED, as the only thing I really miss and need from my Motorola Defy is the notification LED. What other options are available?

I am collecting one this week (from Samsung Head Office). I will try to find out when they will be available. They are in the country, so it should be days/weeks, not months.

Called Samsung SA. They said they don't have the white one. And they have no idea when they will

I'm getting me a white galaxy note from USA... I could bring in a couple more... So let me know.

(mods... if I'm not allowed to post this here please delete my post.)

I got my black one from them Glue. Hoping to save a bit by getting another on import. I already have one so not in a rush :)

Mike, having the same disease, and this addiction/disease is a expensive exercise. Losing so much money by buying the newest and selling still new cellphones (Wife will kill me if she know the real amount). Sold the S2 last week and bought the Note. What a great phone.
My question, is the unofficial ics upgrade worth getting and if so where can I find it?

I hear you on the expense side dude. Thankfully the Note is so awesome it has taken away my need to constantly upgrade. I seem to be settled for a bit now :) Until the Note 2 comes - lol.

I used this ICS ROM for a while - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552554
Very nice and pretty stable ROM.

Currently I am on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589375 and it simply rocks. Not encountered any issues so far. Everything I normally use on my phone is working flawlessly. Read the thread for any potential bugs though. If any - they will be small.

I am a Cyanogenmod fan so getting a stable CM9 release made my day :)

Yip, that promise I made to myself a few times in the past and then they release......

Thanks for the info, had a look, downloaded the files and now I'm contemplating, taking the plunge or not.

Just do it. Just saying :)

Seriously though, you will be amazed at how much smoother your device is with ICS. It is amazing what ICS brings to the table over GB.

Root, GB/ICS Custom Rom

This is a quick and dirty how to for you guys that want to root and/or go to ICS.
I have done it this way so you guys at least have something to work with and direct links to the relevant XDA threads.
In time I will update this how to to include all relevant steps if required.
If you have any problems please let me know. If you flash a ROM and have issues with the ROM then please read the relevant thread at XDA.

1. Root your stock Galaxy Note. Also installs CWM (Clockworkmod).
If your device is already rooted go to step 2 (GB) or step 3 (ICS).

.Download and install Samsung Kies. This is just to get the right drivers on your PC.
.Thread for rooting. I used this same method on Sat to root/cwm a mates new Note. Worked perfectly.
.Install Mobile Odin on your phone. You will need this later.

2. Flash a custom Gingerbread ROM.

.IMO CheckROM is the best GingerBread ROM. Feel free to try others.
.Actual CheckROM download thread.

3. Flash a custom ICS ROM. Make sure you have a rooted Gingerbread ROM on FIRST (Follow Step 1)!!

.You need to flash Chainfire ICS Repack if you want a perfect and rooted ICS ROM.
You only need to do this once. From here you can flash any other ICS ROM and keep root.
.I am currently using this Cyanogenmod 9 ROM.
My other favourite is Stunner.

I think I may try this..

Something that's annoying me to death, how do I stop the phone from cutting the call when I touch the screen? I can never answer a call on this thing because it always cuts off when I'm taking it out of my pocket.

Are you sure it is cutting it? On mine it simply silences the ring. I can still answer though.
Otherwise check settings. Or try another app. I used Ultimate Call Answer for a bit. Not too bad but still in beta.

Mike
Thanks for the info. Will give it a go over the weekend.

Kewl beans Wag :)
Just read the first few posts of each relevant thread I pointed to to get detailed flash instructions and download links. Then read the last three pages to see if there are any issues that release may have that you may not be happy with. I have used each of those ROMS though and consider them all to be just fine. The ICS CM7 one is my fav though. Zero issues and buttery smooth.

My note wont charge.... :( got a weird battery icon on screen the other day... tried removing battery, cleaning contacts... And leaving it to rest for 24hrs... No difference...So I Phoned Samsung.. And had it booked in at their sandton office... I'm Noteless this weekend..
