Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

I am currently sitting on ICS as well, however my baseband version is XXLRK. Will the same process work for me?

Also, very interested in the battery life post update. What is your experience over the last few days and general consensus here.

Yes

Thanks will give it a bash.
Are you still happy with your battery usage?

I currently use Greenify + JuiceDefender to manage battery life.

A collective waste of time and more likely to increase battery drain than reduce it, or cause problem with certain applications. Get yourself better battery stats, will give you very details statistics on whats using your batter, when and how much so you can make informed decisions as to what apps need to die.

For me personally it was google maps, no idea if it was an upgrade error or what, but it alone was causing my battery to drain at 7.9% per hour when the phone was in sleep mode, so no net or gsm or anything really. Took it off an now while sleeping its at about 0.7-0.9%/hr and during the days it can idle around 1.3-1.5%, jumps to around 2% if I am on HSDPA.

Seeing as I use google maps on my phone about 2-3 times a year, making the switch to waze was a no=brainer especially as gmaps being removed has no negative impact in any way shape or form.

Thanks for the advice.

I was under the impression you couldnt uninstall google maps.

Ok. Just installed the German rom. Removed all the unnecessary stuff, and it does fly.

Easy as pie. The multi window works a treat, just wish what's app was supported in that format.

Question : is there any way to reduce the 'favorite apps' widget size

Get APex or Nova Launchers, your phone will be even faster, personally I use and prefer A[ex, its also younger but vastly more popular and higher rated than Nova.
They will both give you the option to re-size widget, choice is yours. They are both IC/JB replacement launchers designed to be upgrade of the stocks, same styles and functions with extra features and enhancements.

My Note (not rooted, Samsung std) just got an OTA update to 4.1.2. I got the notification on Tuesday, but haven't been near wireless. Still trying to see what's different.

Irritations were most of my installed apps weren't on the home screens and my image on the lock screen was gone. Glad to see there's no fat font in the hour on the lock screen.

Well not everything stays after an upgrade if your still using stock everything, custom launcher and custom lock screen so everything stayed exactly as it was before. Biggest difference is performance, battery and thent eh multi-screen thing.

Hi CranialBlaze

I received the update to 4.1.2 via KIES today.
My device is stock standard.
Are you saying I will notice a solid improvement in battery life with this update ?

Thank you

After 24hrs my feeling is battery life is worse...

It also feels as though it's lagging a whole lot more than 4.0.4

That seems to be a common issue. Try doing a factory reset. You will lose all previous settings but it seems to be a recommended method for sorting out irregular battery drain and lag.

I haven't done mine as yet but I can see me doing it very soon as the lag is definitely noticeable.

Isn't a factory reset bad news for the N7000?

Why would it be bad?

Clearing the cache via CWM was an issue before. But a factory reset via the official rom should be perfectly safe. I think.

I've done the upgrade to 4.1.2 via kies. My phone feels faster with no lag. I am just concerned battery life will take a hit now.

Is this the official SA update?
I don't seem to have the update even though I check under settings.

If anyone does a factory reset after upgrading to 4.1.2 please post results/experience with regards to responsiveness/performance and battery life.
Will appreciate it.

As far as I know, yes. MikeS had tried many ROMs before I got it from him, but he put stock ICS 4.0.3 on. Current baseband is N7000XXLSO and kernel is 3.0.31-906407 se.infra.

Battery life is definitely worse (<8h with minimal usage). Tried most recommended things (location rubbish off, Google Now disabled, powered down). Am now waiting for a full discharge. Not keen on the factory reset because of the bricking reports with earlier ROMs.

hi all

friend of mine has the Note and said he isnt going custom ROM coz the S-Pen functionality is not supported properly compared to the official ROM's.

Can anyone confirm this? Wondering what custom ROM to point him to, Im only really up to speed on the S2 ROM's

Cheers
