Official Springbok Tri-Nations Thread

The margin of NZ's victory was greater than I predicted. Was disheartening to see such a lack of vision on attack with that mostly pedantic, predictable passing which inevitably led to us running out of space.

I was listening on the radio, and that's what it sounded like.

Um, thanks for the link, I think... it does not really say too much about ALL these players that have left. And would you be willing to accept the same excuses if South Africa were about to play and said they are having to use new players? If you compare the squad now to the one that played the All Blacks you may find a fair few new names in the Springbok squad too.

Losses of captain Richie McCaw and experienced players overseas have resulted in the All Blacks going into the Philips Tri Series opener against South Africa in Wellington in an unknown phase.

I think most people including myself is taking this loss to seriously.

Lets face it, any NZ team even if they have 15 new caps playing will always be a massive force to recon with. They are a Rugby mad country even more so than SA. a Loss against them is always is very very good odd.

We were out played it happens, we played the number 1 ranked team in the world

So rugby is only 10 minutes long now?

And if you read my post above you will see that the fact they were on our line was helped by the fact that the TMO decided Habana carried the ball back!

And once again, as a true fan, I see that as a huge positive anyway... you state they were camped on our line for 10 minutes yet we managed to keep them out! Good defence boys!

EDIT : Good to see Fiekus also uses this logic! :)

You need to score points to win a game :). I'm just saying the scoreline sort of hides the complete dominance of the ABs...we never looked like winning. The game was over when they scored their own try.

The missing players are: Joe Rokocoko, Aaron Mauger, Luke McAlister, Byron Kelleher, Richie McCaw, Jerry Collins, Chris Jack and Carl Hayman.

And yes, we're looking at it through different glasses. I think you're being positive just for the sake of being positive. For some reason you seem to think the fact that I'm critical of the team makes me less of a loyal supporter than you are. Your definition of a true supporter seems to be one that is uncritical of the team even when they aren't doing that great. I don't agree.

And your defeatist attitude weeks before the game even started is the right attitude to have?

Well no thanks...

Criticism is never a problem. But it is often hidden behind when the true feelings may go a lot deeper... You should also be as easily forthcoming with your compliments. And would a true supporter honestly bet against their team before the game has been played?

We appear to be seeing the same game through totally different glasses so these discussions would be pointless in the end.
and that seems to be the problem, your arguments lose credibility cause you not objective. We could lose 100-0 and you'll comment on how well the forwards played. You think this makes you a patriotic supporter? It doesn't! If all Bok supporters were as uncritical and easy to satisfy as you are SA would never win a match cause they would not be under pressure to do so, not for themselves, not for their country and not for their supporters and not for their coach.

I consider myself a staunch supporter of the national team so when they lose an AWAY game I do question the performance as would any self respecting supporter of a top team.

You don't think NZ supporters would ask questions if the Blacks lost tonight?

I didn't say the Boks were disgraced, neither did I say they suck, nor will I stop supporting them after today's defeat but I will question PDV's tactics and selections and I will question fellow forumites interpretations of the game and I will take you up when you make ill conceived comments like "why should we give them credit where none is due" etc etc

Perhaps you should have phrased your question better and not tried to walk me into your support for the ABs. If you had said the winning team, you would have got a different answer.

Who supported the AB's? It is common decency to congratulate the better side. Surely you know that?

There he goes trolling again.... did I predict a defeat? I think you should go back to that thread milano and read it slowly... :)

Point stands. You never gave a prediction of the score. Just as well though :D

Defeatist? Haha. Look, being a supporter isn't all about being naive and stupid. I have eyes and I can see, and what I have seen this year has been unimpressive. My prediction is for another loss in the next game, but that doesn't mean I won't be shouting for the Springboks to bury the Kiwis. I think your "we have lost, what a wonderful performance" attitude is more defeatist. Hopefully the coach doesn't think that way or the team won't improve.

A realistic, open minded person would be able to say that their team would lose if they have reason to think this. Believing in faeries doesn't make you superior. Closing your eyes to the world and seeing losing as a positive thing often speaks of deeper issues.

the conditions sucked, although rain was predicted...

...but think we lost it, rather they won it..imo

...funny that a name comes up that seems to be a regular poster on the soccer threads...

Apologies from my side pitbull I tried to start with it being constructive but some people just won't let it stay that way. Sorry again.

hehe now you make me feel bad :D

No appologies needed, I just feel the thread is going south from where it was aiming to go. Constructive critisism is good... I feel the boks lacked in some areas and I feel the NZ'ders out played us in all parts of the game.

a Sad loss but not a loss to lose sleep about, I think we did good. Could have been alot better, but good none the less
