So the Lions have a very real chance of ending top of the log now. Three weeks to go and they play the sharks this weekend. A team that may very easily be without Lambie again. After that tough game they play the kings and the Jaguares.

There two closest rivals the Chiefs and Crusaders play each other this Friday morning. If the Chiefs get a win and the Lions also win against the sharks then they will be tied on the top of the log with points difference being the decider. ( assuming close games )

So the Lions can go top of the log with a BP win tomorrow. :D

Interesting times indeed for the team that SARU dropped in favour of the kings just a few short years ago.

The relegation help get the Lions back on track. I'm a big Lions fan but the Kings played well that year and the promo relegation match was 1-1. The Lions cut the deadwood and started fresh with new team and coach.

The relegation was a blessing in disguise. The Union came stronger and the better from it.

Agreed - of course, you're both right. That "relegation" was the best thing to happen to the Lions in the long run.

I just hate it that there is like three teams with more points than the Brumbies and yet second on the log they are. That makes fokkol sense. Aussie teams can play as k@k as possible, and the one who plays the least K@k, ends second on the Aussie/NZ conference. Is SANZAR governed by idiots?

The expanded Super Rugby roster that will come into effect in 2016 will work as follows:

  • Expansion to 18 teams with the addition of the Kings from South Africa and new teams from Japan and Argentina which will be unveiled following the Rugby World Cup
  • Australasian Group: Australian Conference (Brumbies, Force, Rebels, Reds, Waratahs), New Zealand Conference (Blues, Chiefs, Crusaders Highlanders, Hurricanes)
  • South African Group: Africa Conference 1 (Bulls, Cheetahs, Stormers, Japanese Team), Africa Conference 2 (Kings, Lions, Sharks, Argentinean Team)
  • 15 Regular Season games per team (8 home/7 away or vice-versa over a two-year cycle)
  • Two byes per team
  • 135 Regular Season and 7 Finals matches (up from 120 and 5 currently)
  • Eight-team knockout Super Rugby Finals Series to be staged over three weeks (5 qualifiers from the Australasian Group and 3 from the South African Group)
  • The four Conference winners automatically qualify for the Finals Series, along with the next three highest-ranked Australasian Group teams and the next highest-ranked South African Group team
Yes, and there are more SA in SANZAAR. I would not say that the Aussies are playing k@k, this year also had bad politics in Australian rugby especially with the Brumbies and the Western Force.

Another Sunwolves game where they stopped playing the game, ignoring lines, etc. Easier to give up it seems.

In my opinion the Stormers had a well-rounded victory. They should be able to pick up 10 more points. Please leave Schalk as the team captain.
