Wtf happened to the lions, worst game I've seen from them in a while.

Stormers game was a good watch but that red card was BS imho.

It will always be ruled as a dangerous play. Naas Botha and Nick Mallet gave an in-depth explanation on why Zas received a red card. In play, Foley had 1st right to the ball as he was higher in the air than Zas to the challenge, whether Zas had intent or no intent to play the ball or the man is irrelevant, also that Zas slipped. The collision resulted in Foley dropping on his head which is a dangerous play.

The only ways around such a situation is either to be higher than the opponent in the air or wait until the opponent comes down with the ball, or in the air to avoid the opponent going shoulders or above into the pitch which all depends on how the physical contact was made.

This was similar to the Emery and le Roux challenge, where Emery was red carded and suspended.

The question however is how the review board will act on the red card. A dangerous play like this will be categorised as mid-range which carries a 6-week suspension. Due to Zas slipping it might be categorised as low-range which carries a 4-week suspension. Then to take into account that he has a clean record, he is likely to be discounted 2 weeks, where he will either end up with a 4 or 2-week suspension pending on how the act will be categorised.

Zas is likely to only miss the game against the Sunwolves, or on receiving a harsher suspension to miss the game against the Bulls and also the game against the Cheetahs.
 
I know the opposition is not that much to handle, but the Jaguares is playing Pumas rugby. Good to see them dancing with the ball.
 
Embarrassing weekend for the SA franchises. With the exception of the Bulls not much to write home about. Kings getting slaughtered. More jester than king.
 
No man, this is pathetic .... if anything the Jag jumped on his head because the Kings player had no clue the guy was even there. Geez, they need to sort this out.

Cheetahs flank in hot water for stiff arm tackle

Cape Town - Paul Schoeman has been cited for foul play during the Cheetahs Super Rugby match against the Reds on Saturday.

Schoeman is alleged to have contravened 10.4 (e) Dangerous tackling of an Opponent including the action known as the “stiff arm" tackle.

Upon review of the match footage, the Citing Commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.

Apparently he only received a one-week suspension.

Feel bad for Kerevi. He was crying when he was sitting on the bench after going off, too. Clearly knew it was serious.

He was a very good Wallaby prospect for the upcoming June series.

I have been lying to myself for a while now. Saying that I have to have DSTV for the rugby. This weekend, I managed to see two half-games. The lions fell apart for the first half I watched - and that was on my stupid phone with the drifta plugged in. The Stormers was on in the background while I dined with the child and gf at Baron. Two games and only half of the one was on my own DSTV subscription. This format is nothing short of terrible. In the Super 14 days, I watched every match every weekend. To me, that was the best state that Super has ever been in, bar the problem of one "conference" being short a team. I find it funny that now that particular conference has its fifth team sitting at the top of its log after a few short years in.

If we are serious about introducing and developing in Japan and Argentina, then the smartest solution for me would be to abandon this conference crap and return to the 14 format. 4 each for SA, NZ and Oz and the remaining two from those development regions. Unfortunately, the powers-that-be want to develop a domestic competition for Oz (why should that be our problem) and want to keep the Stormers and Bulls in all flagship competitions, leaving the remaining two places in S14 for the lions, sharks, cheetahs and kings to fight over. Their solution to this "problem" is this Super Rugby format we're currently forced to endure. And the big lie many of us are telling ourselves is that it is worth our DSTV subs.

Exactly - up until this conference format, I would be planning my weekend around the games. It was religion almost. I would seldom miss even one game - my Fridays were carefully structured to avoid work just so I could get the sheep farmer games.

Haven't the Aussies now developed their equivalent of the Currie Cup? I'm sure I've heard their commentators talk about it.

Bath Rugby: Amanaki Mafi has left after an altercation with the club's medical chief

Amanaki Mafi has left Bath Rugby after an altercation with the club's head of sports medicine.

The Japan number eight was not selected for either Sale Sharks at home or Northampton Saints yesterday, and had seemingly been rested.

But Mafi has in fact played his last game for the club after a confrontation with Declan Lynch sparked by an appointment for physio treatment.

The Chronicle understands an incident flared up when Mafi wiped the name of another player or players from an appointment board in order to be treated sooner than he was meant to be.

A disagreement with Lynch then escalated and Mafi has now returned to Japan before the end of his contract.

To take note, he was not the only unhappy player at Bath which has decided to pack their bags. Amanaki has been superb at Bath, and it is already noted that their supporters are angry at the union club. Eddie Jones has already grasped up Bath’s scrum coach last week, putting the union club under pressure.

Amanaki is still signed with the NTT Shining Arcs, and Bath acknowledged the early loan agreement termination. He will either be locked down by NTT Communications or made available to the JRFU or even to other Super Rugby teams. My best guess is that the Blues are eyeing this opportunity to sign him up. We might see him in the 2017 Super Rugby competition, maybe earlier…

I doubt that the Sunwolves will be lucky enough to sign him, they already have Ed Quirk and Andrew Durutalo, although Andrew might return to the USA due to their rugby competition expansion.
