Digby Ioane suspended for 5 weeks after his spear tackle on Marcell Coetzee.

The Blues game was also suppose to be a sure win if most people were to be believed.If Steyn is on song and the Reds do not score more than once against the run of play I am sure the Bulls will take it by 5+ points.
On a side note... It feels good to see someone else besides a South African player having the book thrown at them

Quite a stiff penalty IMO. Clearly the sport is being over regulated and we at risk of turning it into a game for girls. It's like regulations introduced in F1 trying to slow the cars down. The sport remains high paced and frenetic, rugby is meant to be physical and tough and by definition potentially dangerous.
5 weeks is well deserved IMHO. There is no place in the game for tip tackles. A broken neck is no joke.

I agree but where does one draw the line?
How many players in the history of the sport have broken their necks as a result of the tip tackle?
Conversely how many fatal injuries have occurred as the result of a collapsed scrum? Shouldn't we be banning the scrum or at the very least red carding props causing the scrum to collapse?
Problem is the prop alone does not cause the collapse but the person making the tip tackle and then driving the opposing player into the ground can be help responsible as individual.
I hope so. They didn't look so good against the Blues.

I didn't expect them to be so harsh but their reasoning is sound. I was shocked that he wasn't given a straight red for the tackle. It was clear as day that he took him past 90, tipped him on his neck and then drove him into the ground...
1 - plenty of players have been very badly injured from tip-tackles, especially when being driven into the ground. I don't know the stats regarding broken necks but I can't recall any. Doesn't mean that severe injuries don't happen as a result.
2 - the scrums are far safer these days. I haven't seen a bad scrummaging injury at senior level for some time now...
