Official Super Rugby Thread 2012

Exactly :) I watched the 2010 tri nations yesterday and I must say he and Pierre Spies are really good, they might not be playmakers like Aplon or SBW, but in international games defense is so good that playmakers end up looking average and the guys doing the hard work really strut their stuff.

I won't agree with you on Pierre Spies unfortunately. My personal opinion is that he never lived up to expectations or his size and speed. Bit "soft" if you ask me.

After returning from that mysterious "Blood illness" he was just never quite the same!

James Haskell has been suspended for three weeks for punching during the Highlanders’ match against the Cheetahs.

Haskell’s guilty plea, remorse shown and his impressive disciplinary record were factors in his sentence being reduced from five to three weeks, Heron said. "I was told that he has no previous citings and has received only a single yellow card in his professional career (which was not for foul play)”

except he got into shyte (week ban) for a headbutt and has had 2 yellow cards before ...... one eyed commissioner much!

After years of skulking away and hiding in corners with embarrassment and having to buy endless rounds for others, this is The Year of the Lions! (Pleeeeze!! I just can't give up and switch to the Stormers, even though I moved from Joeys to the WCape.)

:( Sadly that has not come to pass.

The conference problem has another aspect I have only recently began to, erm, appreciate:

"TOP" 6, by points order not rewards of mediocrity:
(1) Chiefs 39
(2) Stormers 37
(3) Bulls 37
(4) Highlanders 34
(5) Crusaders 33
(6) Brumbies 31

So, let's see this omit one from each conference BS and who it benefits.

TEAM - Top 6 Matches - Top 6 Opponents

(1) Chiefs - 6 - 4 (miss Stormers)
(2) Stormers - 4 - 3 (miss Chiefs, Brumbies)
(3) Bulls - 6 - 5
(4) Highlanders - 7 - 5
(5) Crusaders - 6 - 4 (miss Brumbies)
(6) Brumbies - 3 - 3 (miss Stormers, Crusaders)

We are rewarding a team (brumbies) with a place (3rd) when they will not play two teams that are above them in that log. If the Sharks had that draw, I am sure they'd be smiling. The chiefs walk away with an impressive tour because they skipped real opposition. Now, I like the chiefs but still - no need to call your tour successful. And the stormers/chiefs match is important. The stormers now in fact have a relatively easy ride while the chiefs perhaps hold a position that they may not entirely deserve.

I dunno. I preferred all teams vs all others. If that happened, brumbies would be outta here!

The two matches that I am not able to pick just yet for this weekend:

Brumbies vs Tahs
Sharks vs Highlanders

What do you guys think?

Fairly even, but I'm inclined to give the Brumbies the home ground nod.

Sharks? **** I don't know anymore. Flip of a coin really.

Whahaha, I think I might go Tahs and then do an eeny meeny miny moe for the Sharks game.

Hell, I really really want to see Sharks succeed. Dammit, they need this win. And I think they'll take it, by a point or two.

Who remembers Chiefs Lions last year? Something like 200 tries scores. I expect less this time around.

If the 'Tards beat the Brumbies, it proves my point above: OZ teams are currently swimming in a sea of mediocrity for which a conference system has been developed so that "Third" can also be an accomplishment.

FU Blues.... Throwing a lolli-pass in th 79th minute cost me my SB margin.... 35-19 to the Canes.

ffs, had Canes by 9!!!! Been that kind of a season for me!!! Plenty near misses!!!! Mother!!!!

Yes had Canes by 7 and was smiling... till the blues fullback passes to nobody... wtf!

Even when you do not pick them, the Blues still find a way to mess up my SB game plan :(
