Indeed. Been running GB now for quite some time... My first GB excursion was with MIUI, which then changed to an official You-row-pee-an GB firmware.
 
i flashed Darky's 10.1 over the weekend, battery life SUCKED for a while, the phone would die after 6 hours, then after rebooting a couple times it is much improved, its now nearly 5pm and i've still got 78% left :D

Its very tempramental. Yesterday it almost died. Right now im on 69. Similar usage

Anyone else running Ficeto Deodexed JVH - Also part of the Darky Team for those who don't? Darky 10.1 was giving me massive battery drain issues. But been using Ficeto for about 2 weeks and battery is the best I've seen.

is it much different in the user experience to Darky 10.1?? I've got the file and have also been considering flashing it, its just such a hassle setting the phone up each time and restoring apps one by one :/
 
Hey Guys I'm probably a little off topic here but need some advice,I'm upgrading my contract next so I wanted to know if you would still recommend the Galaxy S and what was some of your payins at Vodacom on the Galaxy S and I know the Galaxy S2 is about to be released here but im a pretty average cell phone user so not really that interested.

I just flashed through Dark Core Recovery and didn't wipe anything so all my stuff including apps were still intact. It's basically the same except it hasn't got that green scroll effects, scroll lock setting and the likes (Basically just cosmetic AFAIK) but it works just the same but without the battery drain issue that I've read some users have on Darky 10.1 (including myself).

Im still more then happy with my galaxy...
Will rather wait for the s3 or something:)

It is still one very good phone. I think you can get it without pay in on the weekender contracts and higher. On top-up 135 there is still a small pay-in. Haven't been to a vodashop recently so it might have changed.

Let me put it this way, if you would be happy with the iPhone 4, you will be more than happy with the SGS. Just make sure you have froyo or better on. But I think it should come out like this default now.
 
Woot, got Gingerbread update last evening on Samsung Kies.. Flashing this time was a lot more uneventful than it was with Froyo when it bricked my brand spanking new phone and required a trip to Samsung in Vodaworld! Gingerbread looks pretty good so far! Benchmarks are pretty poor, but phone feels more responsive than on Froyo.
 
Thanks for the advice hugo69er and phoneJunky, I was leaning toward the SGS, just really need the phone for a few emails,some internet browsing and of course music.

Is this a SA brand phone, or from overseas?

If you email is your top priority then I would tell you to go for the new BB bold rather, but on the other stuff the SGS is really good. I just don't like typing on the touch screen, although you can use swype to make it better. I just want you to make the most informed decision. Personally for me any android phone from the HTC Desire upwards is really worth having over any other phone.

No, I'm with Cell C, got my phone here in March.. Running I9000XXJVO on Gingerbread 2.3.3 now.. Battery drain much better, interface looks a touch different, browsing is faster.. Capacitive buttons don't appear to light up anymore and stay "stuck" etc.

Did previously apply the Voodoo lagfix kernel on my 2.2.1 build to get the enhanced audio features and to apply ext4 filesystem..

I got my galaxy s yesterday and i have to say that even though i am only on eclair, i am mighty impressed by this phone. I have yet to explore its full capabilities but its done everything so far with great gusto.
