Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

Did you get an official update or is custom rom the best way to get gb? I'll only be able to update my phone at the end of the month when i'm back near my wifi though :-(

I would keep it standard for a few weeks, just to ensure there are no issues. Then flash whatever you want. Thus, if there is a problem with the phone, you don't have to struggle to get it back to its stock firmware
 
I tried to update my galaxy s to gingerbread but it stays stuck at "preparing firmware upgrade components" on kies, any ideas?

Got my first issue on my galaxy s. I keep getting a "com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" error.

I haven't loaded anything custom on it yet, just a few apps: namely facebook, antivirus, whatsapp, dolphin browser, es file explorer, imdb, winamp, mybb, juicedefender and watchdog lite.

I have tried resetting my service provider in the settings menu yesterday, which fixed it for a while, but the problem is back and that fix no longer works. Any ideas on how to sort my problem out?
 
@permanentmarker. I had this issue in the past. Google it, theres a simple fix-you have to clear something in the settings menu, i just cant remember exactly what to do otherwise i would have explained it to you.

Hmmm, 2.2.3 stock was running nicely till I came across the battery drain issue which looks like it is a big problem with this release. Wish I had read up about it before I downloaded the firmware update.. Drained my phone in 6 hours flat from 65% battery overnight.. This happened within 3 days of upgrading so I presume it will occur quite regularly..

So decided to install the stock 2.3.4 Samsung firmware now this morning with speedmod kernel and it is running like a train! Feedback seems a lot more positive on this release so I hope to be able to stick around longer on this version, without having to revert back to 2.2.1 which was pretty stable..

You will see better battery life. I get up to a week on my phone now, but don't use it as much as I use to when it was new. Just use it to make and receive phone calls now.
 
i watched a 51 min movie on my train ride to work this morning, lost 10 % of my battery doing it and im using Darky's 10.1 .
With stock rom it used to drain about 30 % for the same length of movie.
so battery is deffo holding up better

I am also on Darky, but I think it is better than the stock 2.3.3
 
umm, how long did the Gingerbread update take via Kies? Mine has been on 0% downloading to target.....getting worried, its been like this for 30 odd minutes

if you can get into the 3 button mode i would try do a factory reset and then start over.
kies all full of nonsense with long file names and stuff so take out the sd and factory reset your phone and try again.

I tried a bunch of that and the problem persisted. As the phone is only a few days old I decided to make the most of the money I pay monthly to MTN, and returned it for a new one. Hopefully the problem wont return now.

Still cant get this damn update to complete, once I download the install and Kies wants to apply the firmware to the phone, phones goes into download mode and then the transfer to the phone just sits on 0%.

Tried this on 2 different PCs now :( Any suggestions?
