Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

Hi

Iv never flashed custom roms or anything before but MIUI looks quite interesting. I do not have the 3button combo however, its just never worked for me. Do i need to get the fix before trying to flash miui?

wow its actually working! Decided to test it out and both download and recovery worked first time! It has NEVER worked in the past on both 2.1 and 2.2. My guess is that something changed with 2.3 (all official). Iv been on 2.3 since it came out but never thought of testing 3 button again.

To those who use MIUI - any warnings/tips you could give me? Bear in mind i have NEVER installed a custom rom or even rooted before. Also, should i Use the official MIUI or Galnet? Whats the difference and which one is easier/safer to install?

TIA

Just read and follow the instructions and you should be fine.

Worse case scenario you brick your phone :) but there is software available to unbrick.

New Galnet MIUI is out: Chameleon RC1.

Neetz, you tried it yet?

nopes...following the forum it seems very buggy at the moment....waiting for final.

Been running (public) beta 11 now for a couple of days and I haven't encountered a single problem on it. I've tried going back to other ROMs from MIUI, but you really do miss the elegance and simplicity it offers. Haven't installed Chameleon RC1 yet, but will probably during this week still.

No warnings, really. I haven't had any issues installing (or reverting back from) MIUI. Ever. I'd recommend going for the Galnet one - I've tried both Galnet and the official, and the Galnet one just seems better somehow. Dunno what it is. :p

On the Galnet MIUI site there's a thread by LttlDvl to do a "clean install". Follow this if you are unsure what to do.

Okay I've done it! My first custom rom:D. I know im delayed lol! Anyways im on galnetMIUI twooey2 and its pretty amazing.

Couple of questions :

1. Is there any way to get the stock android market application? I dont really like the one which comes with the rom.
2. Is there a better way to browse and download themes? Browsing on the phone is quite crap as it just lists all of them in one big group. Something with categories maybe?
3. How is twooeye3? Neetz i saw you mentioned that you had a bad experience with it, but galnet claims all problems are fixed. Have you given it another try?

Thanks!

congrats! process not too bad after all hey? warning....it becomes addictive i must say :D

1. you can downgrade to the older market application, just Google it although I believe the current market application is way more better. Heard there is a newer market version release which integrates some extra security features such pin management etc. might want to give that a try if you purchase any applications.
2. I personally hate many of those themes, most of them are Chinese and honestly makes your phone look really cheap. Also, no categories or search functionality which sucks but very customisable nonetheless. Rather Google MIUI themes and you'll find thousands! Some really awesome looking ones out there. Download to your SD card and install via the theme manager. Simple and clean.
3. Nopes, sticking with Twoeey II for now. Enjoying the battery life and rom in general although it wont be too long before that "flashing" urge strikes :D….Also I don’t prefer installing these beta and RC versions. Patiently waiting for Chameleon final :)

Just download Chameleon RC1 already! Flashed it this morning and all the minor issues I had with Twooey III and Chameleon Beta 11 are sorted out, most notably the laggy homescreen scrolling. :D

thanks dude. I can feel this sudden urge creeping on me now!!! how is ur battery life in general compared to your previous versions?

I have the Chameleon RC1 .zip file sitting in my downloads folder.

I am pretty nervous about messing everything up though. Especially coming from another custom rom. Do I not have to worry about the kernel used in darky interfering?

I've only flashed via Odin. i assume that I must put the .zip file on my sd card and use rom manager to move over right?

Was hoping some of my fellow miui users could help me out.

For some obscure reason, the only browser that works on my phone is opera mini. Any other browser just responds as if there is no data connection, gives me the "this webpage could not be loaded at this time" message. And it's the same wether I'm using 3G or wifi.

Any suggestions? I've googled and searched on the miui forums but couldn't find anything.

Haha yeah it was actually really simple! Im already keen to try flashing more stuff lol, but will wait till theres another solid stable MIUI worth getting.

I did indeed search the net and found some really good ones, busy downloading them as i type this.

Theres a couple of things I have noticed which i dont really like - maybe you could share ur experience on them. None of them are deal-breakers tho!

I find that the automatic screen brightness setting is way too conservative, my brightness almost always seems as if its on the lowest. Even in better lighting conditions, its still a bit too dim for my liking. Im controlling it manualy now, but it would have been nice if it wasnt so conservative.
I cant view mms's. It appears in my messaging app, but when i open the message all i get is a white blank screen. Any idea wats going on?
Lastly,Message notifications are applied to whatsapp as well. ie you cant have different notification settings for whatsapp and general sms etc......or maybe im being dumb?

Other than those minor issues, this Rom is absolutely brilliant. :)

maybe check the firewall option using the Monitor application? could be that your stock browser is disabled for 3G and WIFI?

i also noticed that issue with the brightness however no big deal for me. saves battery anyway so im happy ;)

MMS's are way too overpriced for my liking and complete waste of time....these days most people have smartphones and whatsapp....bye bye sms and mms's.....

i am able to apply different notification sounds to whatsapp...no problem with that?...check your settings....

oh, another cool software for syncing your friends facebook profile pictures to your contacts and whatsapp .... SyncMyPix - free from the market...awesome.

just backup your apps and disable your lagfixes from darky or other kernel to be on the safe side. Dont use ROM manager, flash from recovery..(CWM). use the cleaning script from Galnet MIUI before flashing although it worked fine for me with darky's lagfix enabled.

Tried that but to no avail. It's not that big of an issue but you know how it goes, you want these things to work. And the stock miui browser actually looks pretty decent, wouldn't mind giving it a go.

Ha ha any other suggestions?
