Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

Took the plunge today. Currently on Chameleon RC2 and loving it. Everything feels smoother and the UI is great. Can't comment on battery life yet but it seems to be doing well enough.

Quick question regarding galnet twooey 2 - While reading the changelogs for twooey3, i see that it says ''Charge whilst off (I9000 ONLY for now)''. So does that mean if my battery dies completely and my fone shuts down, i wont be able to charge it lol? (im on twooey2)
 
Hey guys.

As I said in my previous post, I've managed to flash galnet miui onto my sgs. So far its been great except for one thing:
The battery dies VERY fast!

I had heard of miui's battery bug before flashing, but their site claims to have fixed all issues relating to excessive battery use in their latest version, which is why I decided to take the plunge. Its a pity, coz the rom really is great but this is a huge problem for me as I am on my phone alot and can't afford to charge it every hour. Seriously, this thing is going 1% every 30 odd seconds which is unacceptable.

So what are my options now? Is it back to boring old stock for me? Or should I perhaps give darky a swing? Or is the battery issue just related with galnet's version, in which case should I try standard
MIUI?
Your input would be much appreciated guys.

Did u calibrate your battery? Look on the market for a calibration app...also did you flash with a full battery? I get about 12hours with solid use

Or alternatively change your modem.

Yes, I flashed with a full battery. No I did not calibrate the battery. Will try that now and see if it helps. Also, and sorry if this is a noob question, but what do you mean by "changing my modem"?

Try giving it a day or two to see if it improves. I also flashed with 100% battery and on the first day it plummeted! I could actually watch the percentage going down lol. But its been 3 full days now, and today my battery actually lasted, currently on 25%. Thats with about 20-25min of fonecalls for the day and whatsapp almost all day long, as well as wifi being on for the entire day.

I've never had any issues with my battery life on MIUI... Currently on 85% left over after flashing Chameleon RC2 (coming from RC1 last week), around 20 minutes of phone calls, GTalk a couple of minutes and WiFi on the whole time. Been unplugged now for just over 4 hours. I'd easily make it to tonight around 22:00, with at least 20-25% batter life remaining, with heavy use throughout the day, based on experience.

how are you finding RC2?? worth moving over or better to wait for a final version? Im getting quite a few force closes on twooey2. neetz do u experience force closes at all?

all roms come with "modems" / basebands. Certain regions / network providers have specific "modems" for improved signal and data which can result in good battery life since your phone uses less power trying to acquire signal etc. Im currently on CellC using XXJVK modem. Seems quite decent in terms of signal and data at most times. Not much drain compared to other modems I’ve used in the past with other roms. You can switch to 2G (edge) to enhance your battery life because 3G/HSDPA uses extra power and battery but that defeats the purpose of a smartphone I feel.

You might want to try other modems if your signal and data quality isnt that great - http://www.galnetmiui.co.uk/content/forum/modems/ but as the previous post mentioned, it usually takes about 2 - 3 discharge cycles before your notice any improvements to your battery life. You might also want to turn off certain sync accounts which also go a long way as well.

I personally don’t use widgets, task killers etc. and Ive also disabled / "Freezed" many unnecessary background services and applications which generally eat up your bandwidth, RAM and battery. MIUI also has a great built-in firewall function whereby you can disable and enable 3G/WIFI for those sneaky applications ;)

So yea, many ways you can tweak your phone for good battery life. Do some research....tons of stuff out there! :)
 
Is Galnet MIUI 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 based? If it's 2.3.3 your battery drain could quite easily be related to the well known drain associated with that version.

Reading those bug reports on the MIUI forum makes me even more uncomfortable at the moment even though some have experienced no issues at all. Some have also reported 1% battery drain (from 100%) after 30mins or more with continuous usage! Hard to believe but yea.

I’m happy with twoeey II currently so will wait for final..... Not many FC's with twoeey II, although my battery stats never seem to reset after I unplug my charger. My battery graph seems to think that it’s been unplugged for more than 3 weeks (currently) however I’m not too bothered and decided not to fiddle around. I can easliy achieve 12hours+ (streamed 2 episodes of married with children last night) and still had fair amount of battery life available. No complains....really ;)

not sure for RC2 but earlier releases are based on 2.3.4 (software says 2.3.5) Also it seems that the famous Andriod OS Bug has returned on RC2 (as per bug reports). Could very well explain the drains associated with that version.

2.3.5, AFAIK... Says so under Baseband version in About Phone as well.

EDIT: Ahhhh... slow typing on my side today. :p
 
I just flashed the latest version of miui and I'm having trouble getting 3g to work properly. I can load certain sites (mybroadband, NFL.com, Facebook) but can't load others (Google) none of my apps are able to connect to the internet (market. Gtalk etc).
Does anyone know what the problem. Might be?
 
Might be a problem with google my gmail, market and also trying to search google.co.za has stopped working

Anybody know how to apply or make use of an icon pack?Downloaded a really cool icon pack, that is .rar filled with all the icons which are .png

MIUI, I assume? Usually place it in your /miui/<media type> folder... Try making an "icon" or "icons" folder and see what happens when you put it in there?
