No, I'm on Vodacom, but my network mode is set to auto.
I tried flight mode on and off, but it did not work for me.
Initially I suspected an app, but it's happened once more after uninstalling the app.

This doesn't seem like a common problem, so I'll do a factory reset to see if its sorted.

in the worst case install a reboot widget. there are some which enable you to do a quick reboot (+-20 seconds) during which the radio switches on and off. After that you should have reception again. If not it might be your sim card, simply go complain and get a new one

where can i check a real demo of the S? I played around with an iPhone 4 yesterday and would like to check out the competition.

I have both.
You can't compare them though...
If you have time to customise and play around and experiment with the phone and OS, go SGS. If you want a phone you don't have to do that with and don't mind iTunes ruling your life, go iPhone4.

I like being able to try before I buy. iStore/whatever has a Samsung counterpart, they are just few and far between.

iTunes :sick: The deals on the iPhones are quite decent (MTN)- I was set on the SGS until the iPhone came out, now I'm not so sure. Will have to be one hell of a phone to convince me to accept iTunes...

SPiV, why do I feel like you confused me even further. If I knew where u lived I would take both your fones, test em and return the one I did not prefer but...
 
Hey guys. Second post on the forum.

Just got my galaxy S today, just wanted to ask if any of you experience a similar issue; when I try to use the gmail app on the homescreen (or any gmail app or email), it gives me an error along the following lines: ”com.andriod error, force restart?” . Then it basically turns itself onto flight mode, ie no reception or 3g etc. This is sorted out by restarting the phone.

Also, anyone know where I can get screen protectors? I bought a body glove cover today and it came with one, but I’ve managed to get dust under the cover.. I tried to get rid of one bubble and ended up with like a hundred bubbles :/

Welcome to the club! The error sounds strange, did this happen straight out of the box? If, then take it back and they should replace it right there. Otherwise post the exact error you are getting and I might be able to offer some advice.

Screen protectors: Have a look on ebay, there are some decent ones for around R30 including shipping (pack of 5). Takes about 2 weeks to arrive. Otherwise loose the protector. It's gorilla glass and pretty scratch resistent.

I got my Zagg invisible sheild from expansys yesterday after about 6 weeks of waiting for it..
Applied it last night..OMG, it took forever to apply and actually stick to the corners. All I can say is that I hate It, is like an orange peel on your phone. :/

I havent been brave enough to try keys and the rest on it, but im sure it could withstand the odd key.

Will live with it for about another week, then see what it is like. :/

Had this error, but it was the sim card :) got that replaced and then never came up again.

hey man had the same issue.

Go to the app market and download "mine message vibrator" - i know great engrish :P but it works you can set what type of vibration you want for sms's even.

Finally placed my order for the SGS today.

I am currently on CellC Active chat 100, so need to pay R168 extra/month for the phone, which is in line with other operators.

VC - Talk 120s SAMSUNG GALAXY S R 417.70
MTN - Anytime 200 Samsung GALAXY S i9000 R 421.70
CellC - Active Chat 100 Samsung GALAXY S i9000 R 431.70

Note that this is from Nashua Mobile. Yesterday they said they had stock, this morning, nothing, so I should be getting it on monday.
 
I saw on www.all-samsungphones.com that a new firmware update is out today. Is this a scam? They say you have to download a new kies. Feels dodgy to me.

And they the only ones that mentions this.

Thanks, my sim is old (got it in 2002), and they did recommend a sim swap. So i'll do that this weekend. An hopefully it sorts it out :)

The error it gives is "Sorry! The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Then there is a button saying force close.

When you force close it gets reception again, but untill then i have no service, and the problem is, I only see this when i look at the phone, until then i get no calls.

If the sim swap doesn't work i'll get a new phone using the out of box failure option..

That's not a common error with the Galaxy S. My initial thought would be that it is the Sim card. Do a SIM swap and let us know. If that doesn't help you could reflash the firmware or simply bring it to the store and ask for an exchange

Seems weird, busy looking into it. They mention KIES 62 which despite their claim is not the newest version. I am running 74 but 83 and 94 are also available. Further, they don't even mention which firmware will be made available...

There's no scam, KIES is the official Samsung software. I just have a feeling that they have no idea what they're talking about... Let's wait and see

thats steep ! i got it on anytime 500 on mtn for R530 a month :) but thats from mtn. on 200 its around R340 if i remember.
