Capetown is behind 30 minutes. Set your clock to pretoria. But looking at the smilies I think you know that already. I can't read smilies correctly.

What about Vodacom Business Call @ R249pm, I see not many ppl considering that option? any reason?

PS Always bought phones cash, but now thinking bout contract...

If you can buy it cash, do it. Not being stuck in a contract is the best thing you can do...
 
You should be able to get the phone cheaper, but like you said, FREE MINUTES. :)

Edit: Come to think of it, it's not really free minutes, is it...

Yes we use the same time, but that doesn't mean that there is not a time difference. Remember the sun sets later in Cape Town and they go to school 30 later in winter.

This is geography but Capetown's longitute is 18 degrees 27 minutes and Joburg is 27 degrees 54 minutes. That is a difference of 9 degrees 27 minutes. The earth sperical and has 360 degrees around its axis and it has 24 hours. so a shift in 15 degrees represent an hour and that makes up the different time lines. So half an hour is 7degrees 50 minutes. Which makes Capetown even more than 30 minutes behind Joburg. The sensitivity of network clock is probably about half an hour thats why it says Capetown is behind by that margin. If there was a shift of more than 15 degrees our country would probably have more than one timezone. But it doesn't and that is why we all use GMT + 2.

Expansys is doing the phone for about R5300 if that tickles your fancy? Although I haven't heard many good things about them.

i got mine last Saturday. i was getting the errror com.android.phone error every time i'm phoning or just using the phone. mine i got it from MTN shop at VaalMall. I took it back and we tried to put in a 3G sim, it worked fine. now i'm busy testing on a 3G SIM, because i have waratty untill the next saturday. but i can say, the error is gone. i think it's the seem card, try getting a 3G one!
here is my phone details:
I9000XXJM2
2.1-update1

mine does show the samsung S logo when powered on, no mtn logo or anything.

No, that just stuck in my head somehow from school. I also used to live in Capetown and noticed the time difference when I came up to work here.

Anyway on the network clock isn't there a time zone for Harare, it is also GMT+2 or CAT (Central African Time).

As I heard shipping from overseas takes half a month, so not the best option... checked CaCell SGS for R5500, who say they have it immediately. Did anyone deal with them before?

i GOT mine from expansys, and i got it in 8 days. I missed the last one, otherwise i would have had it the next day.

Hello guys!
How is safe is rooting? i really want to have more nice applications installed on my phone.
here is my phone info:
MTN - with no branding logo

PDA:I9000XWJM3
PHONE:I9000XXJM2
CSC:I9000OXXJM2

can some tell me if i can root my phone with the instructions on this thread:

Google helps a lot, I even did it before asking such questions. It really helps clear repetitive questions but each noob is a special case each time I guess.
@cnshimba to answer the your question, no it allows you administrative rights if you've worked with Linux. So more permissions to system files and resources.
The installation of 3rd Party apps outside the market has always been present.
 
^ Yup. Just download the APK file of the app you want on your phone, connect the phone to your computer via USB, copy the APK file to either the internal or external SD of the phone, unmount the phone, open any file explorer app on the phone and run the APK.
