I am getting it on the topup 315. I asked the guy and he said get R315 airtime/month, then can change into data etc. Initial pay in of R1379.

I dont understand it, been to several different cell phone shops (all vodacom), and all have different pricings.

Been using it yesterday. Seems stable so far, quite happy with it :)
Had a few problems at first though:
I had a bit of trouble getting it with Kies. It said "couldn't convert to download mode", and yet there my phone was stuck in download mode. Had to reset the phone by taking out the battery and then used Kies to recover it (When you click on Firmware upgrade there is a recovery option, it remembers that the firmware upgrade failed). That got it working.
My next problem was being unable to restore settings with Titanium backup, since carrying over settings from 2.1 to 2.2 doesn't work well and I couldn't be bothered to root until an easy method for this firmware is available.
Then when trying to re-install my apps using appbrain my phone ran low on internal memory after only a few apps were installed. Needed to do a factory reset to recover the memory which had mysteriously gone.

After all that, it's running pretty well. The internet browser seems faster, at least it doesn't suffer as badly from low FPS when opening the myadsl.co.za homepage.
There's a tiny lag here and there, once I can root and lagfix it that should be gone.
Google Voice Search and text-to-speech is there, along with a "Driving mode" to read out notifications and messages. Full Adobe Flash is included, could go onto Youtube and watch a 480p video on the desktop site.

There's several little tweaks, the Samsung keyboard has been modified (now you hold shift for caps lock), auto-rotation switch in the notification bar.

The Accuweather clock has disappeared. I downloaded "Weather widgets" from the market to make up for that.

Will report on the GPS when I get the chance to test it. I'd recommend it if you can handle any complications with installing it, since it's not official. I see it now has a built in backup feature. Not sure how that works but this should be the last time you lose all your settings :)
 
Just gave the GPS a go on my trip from university to home, which is about 25km (mostly on the freeway). Looks like we have a major improvement, not as good as I would like though.
It didn't lose accuracy nearly as badly as it used to, on a couple of occasions it went down to maybe 50m accuracy and would think I was on a road right alongside the freeway. When I wasn't on the freeway it seemed perfect.
Maybe something better than the hacked Google Maps Navigation I was using wouldn't get confused so easily from small losses in accuracy. I'll give the Co Pilot trial a go sometime, when I have the bandwidth to download it.

Well at least it makes for a usable navigation device now!

Hopefully they release the official update soon so those of you not willing to take chances and deal with a non-user-friendly process can get it :)

I'm dying too. I've spoken to so many people in different departments I've lost track. But today I got an answer I think is the most likely to be true - according to their main warehouse's stock controller, they'll be accepting delivery during the second week of September. In stores then around the third week I'd imagine. I felt like having a baby right then and there.
 
I was going to go the MTN route, considering they do not brand there phones etc, and the anytime 200 was cheaper than vodacom at top up 315.

But now im going with Voda as you get R315 airtime as apposed to R200, and you can use a portion of the R315 for data bundles.

Also the MTN store gave me quite bad customer service.

so you pay 65 more for the R115 airtime.

and with voda youll get a 300mb data bundle for R139-
 
Ok so i'm getting my galaxy s today.. where can i get free android apps? and how do i go about installing them? do i just download them on my phone and install?

Going the same route, albeit service with voda 4u is figgin shocking!

Also gonna go the same route. Just remember there is a pay in of about R1300.
Now i need to figure out what to do with R650 of Mtn airtime...
 
What do you mean by a portion ghostbuster? I thought you could use all of it on data bundles if you wanted to? (I'm also thinking of going with Vodacom).

I just meant its flexible you can do with it what you like.

Im going at lunch to pick up mine.
 
keep in mind the extremely high call and sms costs of MTN Anytime 200 (R2.30 per call, 75c per sms)
Also, if you finish your airtime, the charge increases to R2.85 per call

You can use all of it on data bundles with vodacom. But with mtn you arent allowed to use any airtime to buy data bundles.
