Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

Can't MTN see it's losing customers dam i really want this phone :(

But cant move to Voda cause my contract not up yet can only upgrade:mad:

Hell has officially frozen over. I've got a Galaxy S (not unexpected though I've always loved linux) and I've gone to Vodacom. Hopefully they don't disappoint me this time. Although I've still got 3 months left on MTN but I'm impatient darn it.

You wont regret it... every time i unlock this phone i am amazed anew at the screen. It is seriously uncomparable to any other screen i have seen. Android with the host of free apps, and the customizability of the device are just a bonus! Also loving the fact that it plays DivX out the box.... just copy the movies across over wireless and watch them. No fiddling required!

I couldnt wait anymore, so I went and ordered it from Expansys. awaiting delivery.

Sweet! I'm gonna have to play with it :)

I'm due for upgrade in December- hope the prices come down by then. I'll have to wait. What is the Expansys warranty policy?

Yeah you can, I'm on top up 315 and I bought extra airtime this morning and loaded a 2.3G bundle for R389.00, I've been doing this for over a year.

I called 5 vodashops and four of them said you can't buy data bundles with inclusive air time. So I tried cellucity and they agreed that you can't buy data bundles on the top up contract.

Thanks Doo1975 I only hope it's not changing soon and that staff are clueless. The data bundles are the only reason I'm going to Vodacom. Well I'll find out as soon as it's activated.
Meanwhile the phone is quite cool, they should have loaded some media on it to show it off though.

I was so sure you could. Sorry about that! Has anyone received any word from MTN yet? I told them to give me a call when they have stock but I still haven't heard anything yet

Thankfully the customer care line was more helpful and they confirmed I could. I confirmed with MTN that it would be the third week of September before they would have stock (they were quite sure of this). Hope I didn't make a mistake going with Vodacom.

Ok so i got my samsung galaxy s today (Awesome phone if i might add) and downloaded android mxit. I just would like to know if the data usage is the same as the normal mxit. I went to settings - acounts and sync and switched off background data etc. I read a few articles on that and apparently if its switched off you save on data usage. I also downloaded opera mini android version, will that also save me on the data usage front? another thing my ram usage is 222mb/326mb and no applications are running in the background etc..btw it fluctuates but always above 200mb

Yep thats normal for all Galaxy users. None of them reported anything close to 512mb. Some say this will be rectified in a later update but others just believe that 150mb is used by the system to run android

You just convinced me to go with Vodacom!

Does anyone else have this bug: sometimes when in landscape mode in the music player if I go back to the homescreen my live wallpaper is just a small rectangle and the rest of the screen is black (and no amount of rotating or going into other apps solves it). The only way to go back to normal is to change the wallpaper or restart.

Last two nights I put it on to charge when going to bed. Woke up both mornings, phone was fully charged but off. Is this some sort of auto-shutoff thing?
