Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

I have to say let price be your deciding factor. I had the same repair situation as you at vodacom. So ignore service and warranty stuff you have an equal chance of being messed around with either network. Rather choose the deal that is most beneficial to you.
Also I got an sms from MTN in Sandton saying they expected stock of the SGS next week if anyone's interested.

Nothing happens when I push ctrl+alt+u+p. how do activate the test mode in kies?

Open firmware upgrade first without connecting the phone. Then press those buttons. If it doesn't work you have an old version of KIES, update

The only thing i miss is the ability to flip the phone over to silence it if it rings and i am in a meeting or busy... i cant seem to find a setting to do that... any ideas?

There's apps which support that feature. Locale has it built in too

Mmm. Ive got the latest kies. Do i hold it after the warning box or before?

I don't find the Tab in the least bit impressive other than a higher res and larger screen it has nothing over the Galaxy S (although I don't get the point of tablets in the first place).

Me neither, but must admit that I was very impressed when I configured an Apple iPad 3G 64GB for someone at the office yesterday.

Feels horrible to use my iPhone now. :(

Be careful before you upgrade on some phone

Recovery Mode Missing on some phones

I am loving my SGS but unfortunately mine is one of those that does not have the failed firmware update recovery mode. If you are planning to update yourself I would recommend checking the IMEI number of the phone they want to give you and see it is not one of the batch that has this broken. You can still reboot into download mode using ADB so I was able to root my SGS but I am going to wait for an official Froyo update and get Vodacom to flash my phone in case it bricks :(

I have the same problem. Wonder if it's got anything to do with the Vodacom / Vodafone / carrier-specific branding in the firmware and not specifically a Samsung issue? Can anyone with a Vodacom SGS test this on their phone?
