Why does my s keep telling me that an sd card is required when there is one installed? I unmounted and reinstalled many times! It usually happens when I want to preview something like in an email.the card does work cos I saved stuff on it and can access the files on it.quite frustrating!

Hey guys, I am new to this thread and after reading ~10 pages I feel fairly lost (not hugely up to scratch with all these technical specs)

Would anyone be so kind as to refer me to some good reading material on this phone, as I am considering it as my first choice over the Iphone 4.

That should be all the information you need. And you can lookup any phone. I recommend using the compare feature on the let to compare to other phones(iphone).
Only the left there is also 3 formal reviews of this phone. One comparing it to the iPhone. However remember every reviewer has his own opinions. You should make your own too.

I am not sure if there is a fully tested working mode. I searched for a method to backup my existing firmware myself and the best I could come up with is a nandroid backup. I used Rom Manager App on the Marker to make the backup images. However there is no telling if it works and I am not even sure how to restore them.

So if you can get someone with a vodcom brander phone(I have unbranded and flashed to other roms too) to make a nadroid backup for you might risk restoring that on your phone. However you must backup you efs folder and possibly restore your original efs folder. Also the person making the backup will have to root his/her phone. So when you restore you will have to unroot after the restore.

I think it's hardly worth the effort. Hopefully you will just be able to pay to have the repair done rather than follow the above which I am really making up from what I have read. I have no idea if that will work or break anything. Also I called the samsung repai center and they seem to be another company that samsung uses. So there is a chance they wont care what you did with the software. Especially if it is a hardware problem.

Thanks, I have been through those now as well as various other reviews on both phones. I am leaning towards the Samsung based on the size of the screen, my preference for something different to the Apple norm (ie: Android) and the fact it sounds like it can compete well in the video/music/web-browsing areas.

Where can you go test these things out in JHB? All the MTN shops I contact say they don't keep demo models.

Also, what is the general consensus on using a Galaxy tab as a phone? Does it work in SA? The idea would be to combine a Cell C 21mb speed stick and something like FNB connect with a bluetooth headset.

My mtn store also say if i want stuff quickly i should rather go to vodaworld. They apparently have allot of stores there and you can almost test most things there.

I have a question though. My friend has an iphone an he has an voip application that detects if his contact he is phoning has this application and if it does asks him if he would rather do the voip call. I cant remember what it is called. Is there something similar for android and if someone knows what is the iphone applications name. I have been trying to google it, but to no avail and am wondering if we werent understanding what each other was saying.

Currently own both the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab, i would say either is great choice.

You can use the Tab as a phone. I do. Lol. But remember its either speaker phone or headset. So the bluetooth idea is a good bet. Other than that, the Tab is a large version of the S. Only faster.

You also have the 1080p video playback, which is nice.

do you mean you want to connect a speedstick to the tab? ... Huh?

Just upgraded to JPX and put Darky's V6 on.
It all seems good so far, not tried out the GPS.

BUT is there an easy way to uninstall the Samsung apps that come default with it? Last time i had to use Root explorer and uninstall them that way, is that still the only option? :-/

I have read many of your previous posts in other threads as well - I am torn between the phone and the tab and any clarity on helping make the decision is appreciated :) The ability to watch 1080p vids and use it as an e-reader is a nice bonus as I was looking to get something that could do that anyway. I realise I will be needing a bluetooth headset to make calls properly.

With respect to my Cell C modem - yes. I'd like to use that as my data connection.

One the one hand you can get the tab on an MTN contract and get the screen size bonus, but on the other hand the Galaxy phone is around the same price per month and includes airtime. What to do! :)

If you dont mind the size. Go for the tab. I got mine on a talk 500 vodacom. And i just load a data bundle ecerymonth. Its difficult for me to say which is better. But if i had a choice of only one, i would have the GTab.

EDIT : what area do you stay, you.more than welcome to have a look at both my devices and decide.

I work in Fourways, but live in Randburg, so I've been going around to stores in Fourways but haven't had any luck. I was hoping to get one before I went away on holiday, but now it seems too late as no one has in stock / can deliver before Jan !

boys, just been browing the market.. for those of you with Froyo.. search for "Gingerbread launcher" - its an app that gives you the 2.3 Launcher as well as the 2.3 gingerbread 3D app drawer. And its free :) I been using it for 10 mins and its awesome!

Got it running on stock samsung JPX via Kies, and its so cool

You would need to take the SIM out of the modem and put it in the Tab.

Thanks for the info, I thought you would be able to plug the modem directly in via USB? But then I guess it would still default to the sim that's inside the tab to make phonecalls? My practical side says just get a normal phone but my tech-loving side says get the tab :)
