Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

Mine did that when I had an old 16k sim card.
MTN swopped it for a new one. and problem is sorted.

I didn't try mxit though...

Yeah. I also figured out it was the sim. Phone was fine with the sim removed. Then I inserted my wife's Vodacom sim, and it worked fine. Put my sim back in, and now the problem is gone. Will have to go to MTN and get a new sim it seems.

I thought mixit was for horny teenagers?

Or are you repeating Matric for the fourth time?

Chill it's POETS day.

Very funny.

I'm getting the phone replaced tomorrow. Nothing I do is fixing this issue. Phone is unusable, as the error occurs all the time.

Ok so maybe it's the actual Samsung phone that is FUBAR and not Android because I find the OS to be just fantastic. Hope you come right.

Well luckily I got the phone yesterday, so the store said I can swap it out any time. Just annoyed that i spent R110 on a sim swap, and then R90 on a screen protector, now the phone is getting swapped. Oh well...

Maybe a firmware updated would've helped? You should really try upgrading it to 2.2.1 first before taking it back. On the other hand, upgrading the firmware would void your warranty, so the store probably won't take it back. Again, on the OTHER hand, would they even KNOW the firmware was upgraded?

Not going to take the chance. If the new phone does the same thin, then I will try that. But i reckon for now, getting it swapped first is the safest bet.

Is there any improvement in the WiFi reception when the firmware is upgraded?

Did another factory reset and now it seems to be working. What a weird issue. I did delete all my sim contacts though. Maybe they were somehow corrupted or something. I don't know. :/

I don't use SIM contacts, heck not even phone contacts. I sync all my contacts from my GMail account. You'll do the same when you start flashing custom ROMs. :p

my phone gives same error when there is an sms pending from MTN via the "555" number - (ie when I have purchased airtime) - all i do is put the sim in another phone, wait for the sms to come through - and then put the sim back in my Galaxy S. No more problem. I have never been able to receive an SMS from this 555 number on the Galaxy S so far.

Its interesting you say that, because the problem occurred right after i bought airtime from my internet banking yesterday. Hmmmm.... Really strange indeed...

If you can, put the sim card in another phone - I guarantee you there is a sms from 555 waiting to come thru ;-) These days when purchasing airtime I put the sim in my old nokia n97 before I purchase and wait for that sms to come thru - then switch back. No problem with process.android.com!

Im on a Top Up contract, So i guess I'm going to have to do this once a month it seems. :(

I'm on mtn pay as u go and they charged me 50c for a new simcard.
1st time I ever got good service from mtn.

I never had any issues with my old prepaid MTN simcard in my SGS.
All USSD codes worked just fine for data and voice, etc.
