Official Thread: Samsung Galaxy S (I9000)

I phone Samsung to find out when the latest firmware will be available. The lady told me that it will be available in April but they are not sure if it will be Froyo of Gingerbread. So there is word out that we will not get the Froyo update but straight to Gingerbread. Then I started asking her about loading custom roms and so on. She told me that it will do nothing to the warranty. If you screw up your phone by flashing you will have to pay the repair centre to reload the Firmware. So I ask her again if I can load any Firmware that my heart desires and she said wait let me speak to her manager.. She came back and once again confirmed what she said. YOU WIL NOT LOOSE YOUR WARRANTY IF YOU FLASH CUSTOM FIRMWARE. I asked again... are you sure? and she said YES.

I don't think those people know what custom firmware even is. They might think its a normal program or something. As flashing DOES indeed void your guarantee, voiding your guarantee starts when you root your phone

I did explain what I meant by new software. I said upgrading to firmware which has been modified and tweaked to get the best performance. then she said if it breaks while i flash i need to pay to get it fixed but the warranty is still OK

Can confirm the april thing, see a few posts up.the skipping to ginger thing would be pretty cool.

If this actually happens I will eat a short sock. Just flash it with darky's rom and just to android 2.2.1.

Hello to anyone who can help. Im stuck and frustrated. For the past two days i have been trying to flashh darkys 9.1 latest rom. I have followed all the instrustions to the letter. i have the three button fix and CWM is installed. Yet when i boot into recovery and apply sd card:update zip i get error message cant open sdcard/update zip (bad). I read on one the forums that it could be a bad download so i downloaded the rom again and i still get the error message. I have not opened the zip at all so the signature is still there. PLEASE HELP. I need to desperately get off eclair, i need me some froyo mixed with gingerbred. Thanks.

Shouldn't you choose "apply ZIP from SD card" and then browse to the file? Is the ZIP file you have actually called "update.zip" and is it in the root of the internal SD card?

Update.zip should be the Clockwork recovery file. Re-download that and put it on your phone again. If we followed the same instructions, the link is there in the instructions.

If CWM is installed and you boot into it, then you should try the below. Unless you still in the Samsung recovery?

yeah like maddmatt said, the update.zip is to 'install' clockwork mod.... so redownload the cwm update.zip, apply that, reboot, and then you'll be able to book into clockwork recovery, and flash from there

Anyone installed version 2 of Samsung Kies yet? I see the update is available but will only download it later tonight.

Let me know what it brings to the table (here is me holding thumbs for firmware).

Im giving up on trying to install this damn darky rom. Will try again when the frustration levels have decreased. I hate my phone now.

Just a tip for those of you who know how to flash stuff via CWM. If you want to be able to see all the cool apps in Samsung apps, flash this via Clockwork recovery:

The link is in XDA member sewe's sig, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11072754#post11072754

There's Kies Air, photo and video editors and loads of other stuff visible in Samsung Apps after flashing it. Those of you who stick with the official software shouldn't need this.
