Eventually I just flashed an older Darkyrom via Odin and started over.

I also realised my initial mistake...

I went full retard by trying to install the S2 software on my S1, LOL!!!

I downloaded the correct software and Voila!!!

ICS Slim 3.0 is awesome!!!

So why cant you flash roms from the external? I see Hugo69er has done it succesfully.
 
Anyone else running the first CM9 nightly? It's based on 4.0.4 which means the old Android OS bug is GONE! I've also seen a bit of a speed increase.

Last night my SGS would not start. It wouldn't even get to inserting my PIN.

It gets past the "intro" music and then it hangs. It then vibrates for a second every minute or so and goes no further.

I have taken battery and sim out. Ensured it's charged. Still nothing.

Any ideas to get it started properly or any other ideas to sort it.

Will be grateful if some could give some advice. Thanks.

Rooted? Happened to an sgs i manage :cool:

I'll take that as a no.

What you can do is reload the factory OS from hboot. It's harder since you haven't rooted. Need to find the original firmware, check xda. Then copy it to your sd card. Then boot up, and it should automatically install (flash).

Google: non rooted sgs bootloop. And go from there. Happy hunting.

This is similar to what they'd do if you send it in your repairs.
 
There might also be a way (key combination or option in the boot menu) to do a factory reset.

Find out what key combination gets you into the boot menu. Think it's volume down + power + home. See what the options are.

This is mainly based on a desire hd. Fixed the sgs through recovery since it was rooted.

Thank you, squire. I'll give it a swing. If this works, I will have learnt an immense amount about my SGS. :o
 
If its not rooted/no custom software and is still under warranty, rather get it fixed officially. Some of the sgs in SA had the recovery/download menus locked (mine was until I flashed a custom rom) If this is the case, the only way to get it into download mode would be to use a jig.
 
Thanks prof818, but mine is probably already out of warranty. I am just a few months away from 2 years now.

Reading the comments, I quite sure mine is not rooted :o Like they say, we learn something new everyday. I am still learning tons.

Never mind. Plenty file explorers get me there with no hassle.

Installed Infinitum rom and I must say its much better then icssgs teams rom
 
Hi all
New to flashing so forgive the ignorance, was just tired of froyo and kies, ...
So i went straight to ics 4.0.3 mr1 rc4.2.
Seemed stable and battery life was brilliant but apps were basis, too basic, worse than froyo.
So now i tired cyanomogen 4.0.4 (nightly) and installed gapps as well.
Some apps still seemed basic/backwards but now system is not stable.

Any help, should i just jump to GB and stick with it.
 
I prefer to stay away from buggy/unstable roms, so Im still on GB. ICS on the SGS is just not worth all the trouble at this point in time...in my opinion.

When ICS was first ported to the S1 I was pretty unimpressed, because it made my phone pretty laggy, and was still full of bugs. As a result I went and tried out Darky 10.4 which did the trick, but was completely unexciting compared to some of the stuff I had tried before (it pales in comparison to Galnet's MIUI Chameleon IMO). I used Darky for about 2 months though, because I liked that it was an almost stock rom and I found it pretty functional, if a little laggy under pressure.

But I got bored again, and decided to try a new rom. I first tried to flash MIUI Scottland's V4 rom, which didn't really pan out as I'd hoped. It deleted my APNs and I could not get phone signal, and eventually I got stuck in bootloop. So I ODIN'd an old Darky Rom.

Round 2, I tried WeUI and I have to say this is the best rom I've ever had. Its a V4 MIUI rom, which means its got ICS, but it also comes with the option to install Apex launcher and Touchwiz 4, so you have an abundance of options when it comes to launcher styles. At the same time, it comes with a choice of 2 different kernels, Glitch and Semaphore. I've only tried Glitch but I've had excellent signal and GPRS, MUCH better than stock Samsung.

This is the smoothest rom I've ever used and apps that used to lag on trusted GB roms are now smooth as butter. I seriously recommend you don't judge ICS by the first few attempts that were on XDA because stuff like WeUI blows my mind. From what I've heard, TWICS CM9 is also pretty awesome.

Shot, busy checking it out now. I've been using MIUI UK with glitch for the last few months. I am looking for something new and exciting, but stable, so will give it a try.

Yeah. Been running Cyanogen Nightlies for a week or 2 now (CM9 ICS 4.0.4). Update every 2 or 3 days. Great rom, and together with Semaphore kernel, what more do you need? Overclocked to 1200MHz and running smooth as silk.

What app do you use with your Parrot CK3000 evo car kit?
I have tried various with my SGS i9000 and still not 100% smooth on/off auto bluetooth.

Did search but didn't pick any discussions.

I have a Supertooth One handsfree device and that works without problems with my SGS with ICS flashed.
