Official Tri-Nations 2010 Thread

I find myself agreeing with Lance again. Doesn't happen often. But I don't think calls for P-D to go should be made. I like him and I want him to stay.

Look back to 2006 TriNations - were people baying for White's blood? Yes!
Did they get it? No!

What did they get instead? 2007...

Lets wait and see first. The final determination is now and here, call for whether PD should quit/stay will be decided. My guess he will stay anyway.

Would be crazy to replace him now, a year to go till WC...

I agree, I do not say "Replace him" I mean "Calls for his Replacement". I started to like the o'l chap. I hope the boks will show my old fears down once and for all..

On the upside, with the Aussies and All Blacks winning now, they'll peak and then choke in the World Cup - AGAIN - har, har...

'ol Div sure makes some "head scratching" statements but he has a very good coaching record

Gonna be an interesting season.

If you as a coach fk up your relationship with a guy who has by far the most Rugby talent ever seen since the start of the game. Then you do not deserve to be coach to even sniffer dogs.

They should have held on to Fransie like a piece of gold. He is really talented. I have said that from the beginning - and now we losing.....

Great more below AA standard refs. Aus and NZ referees are average, but those northern hemisphere referees are extremely poor.

+ 1000000

Kick his A$$ to the curb. I don't mind the Boks being out of form, but to lose the way they have been, is just ridiculous. They're the Boks not Bafana Bafana.
The coach has consistently selected poorly, has obviously been unable to inspire, seems to know very little about the tactical aspect and flipping can't even speak a coherent language. I love this coach...... not.

SOLD OUT!!!

Soccer City / National Stadium / FNB Stadium (whatever they decide to call it) is sold out.
Almost 90'000 people. Awesome!!!

Grounds for concern over Tri-Nations pitch

The condition of the pitch for Saturday’s Tri-Nations match between Australia and New Zealand is causing concern after players from a rival football code threatened to boycott the venue.

The Wallabies host the All Blacks at Melbourne’s Docklands stadium on Saturday, a day after an Australian Rules match is scheduled to be played on the brittle turf.

The Australian Rules players association has described the surface as an “ice skating rink” and demanded the league’s governing body fix it or consider moving games after a number of players slipped during matches last weekend.

The Australian Football League, the stadium’s major tenant, promised measures to make the surface safer, but All Blacks coach Graham Henry said on Tuesday little could be done before Saturday’s test.

“We are visiting the stadium tomorrow and the reality is there’s a test match there at eight o’clock on Saturday night and I don’t think they can do much with the ground between now and eight o’clock on Saturday night,” he told reporters.

“We’re just going to have to do our best with it ... jumping up and down is not going to make a difference.”

The surface at the stadium, which has a retractable roof, has courted controversy for a number of years but reached fever pitch in recent weeks with a number of Australian Rules players suffering injuries after slipping during play.

“It’s a pity that we can’t train there, which is disappointing,” Henry added. “We’ll have a good look at it tomorrow afternoon after training.

“What I’ve been told is that it’s a very short root system. If that’s the case it may mean that the grass might roll up underneath the scrums, which would make it difficult.”

‘UP TO SCRATCH’

Australia coach Robbie Deans was less concerned about the surface, saying the Wallabies would play on asphalt if they had to.

“The playing surface will be consistent for both sides and we’re really looking forward to (the match),” he told reporters.

“There’s sure to be a lot of players falling over on Saturday night and it will have nothing to do with the surface.”

The venue for the Tri-Nations is unlikely to be switched with most tickets sold and a crowd of more than 50 000 expected.

“We certainly wouldn’t be inclined to send players out on a surface that is deemed to be very dangerous,” Omar Hassanein, acting chief executive of Australia’s Rugby Union Players Association, told local media.

“We’re confident there is a management plan in place that will have it up to scratch by Saturday. It’s a pretty big call to be shifting a Bledisloe Cup match at this point in time.”

Times Live

This would be a major stuff up if the game is called off:

South African referees boss André Watson does not believe Craig Joubert will be under any added pressure because he has to make a call on whether the Tri-Nations Test between the Wallabies and All Blacks in Melbourne can go ahead.

“Craig will decide whether it is dangerous or not. It is part of a referee’s job,” said Watson.

Joubert will examine the playing surface at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday and then make a recommendation to International Rugby Board (IRB) referees manager Paddy O’Brien.

It has been reported by allblacks.com that Joubert has already voiced his concern to O’Brien.

There has been a report that the All Blacks and Wallabies may pick up injuries on a field that has been described as “unstable” by clubs from the Australian Football League (AFL) and AFL Players’ Association.

Joubert immediately called O’Brien about the playing surface on his arrival in Melbourne, though All Black and Wallaby team managements have indicated that the Test can go ahead.

Joubert will nevertheless have the final say.

News 24

To make things worse, there is an AFL game at the stadium the night before.
