Official Web Africa thread

Here's the update:

Service Interruption: Openserve ADSL/Fibre
Tuesday, 24 July 2018, 17:30

We are experiencing high latency and packet loss:

Infrastructure Provider: Openserve/Telkom

Affected areas:

Cape Town

Resolution: Our upstream provider is attending.

UPDATE: Cable hauling is ongoing on site. Splicing to commence tomorrow due to safety concerns in the area.

We apologise for the inconvenience and we promise to keep you posted with any updates from our infrastructure providers.

Three days now... during the day it's fine, as soon as people get home at 6pm the network literally dies. Come on guys... I moved from Crystal Web because of the same nonsense and now you are starting to show this too. How is it not possible for IS to not fix this ASAP. Why do we need to wait until tomorrow for them to go out to fix something that affects the entire Western and Eastern Part of this country.

Tonight is definitely the worst that I've seen on WebAfrica in a long time! Like Google Chrome would even say "There is no Internet connection"!

Much of the slowness with web browsing is due to the fact that both the DNS servers that WebAfrica is telling my router to use (8.8.8.8 & 168.210.2.2) have high packet loss via WebAfrica. The moment I use my office's DNS server via a VPN connection, my browsing is fairly fast again.

It is absurd that WebAfrica/IS does not have enough redundancy in place to avoid situations like this - or at the very least to prioritize things such as DNS queries.

This current issue is definitely local to WebAfrica, since flushing my DNS cache on my PC +router and then dialing a VOX account solves all of the above issues instantly, and they appear again when switching to WebAfrica!

Is anyone here able to access WebAfrica client portal to just log a support case?

My browser just says "Waiting for www.webafrica.co.za..." in the status bar!

I logged in, but it is extremely slow. Completely unusable.

I am convinced that South African internet simply dies around prime viewing time, a time when everyone is settled after dinner and had a shower and people want to settle down and watch a movie or something through the internet. My son in law just got rid of his LTE connection and replaced it with an ADSL Account as he was experiencing the exact same problem around prime viewing time in the evenings and his ADSL connection according to him is better than the LTE connection during this period.

We are on 300GB Openserve Capped Pro Account and last night around 21h00 for a short period Netflix was struggling to load and the video quality dropped.
Yep same issues again tonight , why we paying for this? Sigh

On a conference call to the US last night colleagues couldn’t believe half the country could be impacted so badly by something so critical to consumers and business alike.

3 days is disgraceful. But hey, afrikak.

I've had around 30 - 40% packet loss to EU and around 5 - 10 % packet loss locally on a 50MB fibre between the hours of 7 - 11 for the past 3 months. I've probably logged around 5 tickets and it's still not resolved. If anything it's getting worse.

I have honestly just given up and accepted the fact that this is what I have to play with in the evenings.

So far so good. IPTV streaming and Netflix holding firm.

Let’s monitor and feedback.

So far so good tonight. Was intermittent during the day today.

WA responded to a Facebook message very promptly earlier this afternoon. Holding thumbs for tonight...

Good Day WA

If I have a 40 meg adsl line but I take a 10 meg uncapped package, what speeds do i get ?
I asked because one of your operaters told me the speed will still be 40mbps , but your fair usuage is only affected.

thanks
Kitty

I doubt it will run faster than 10mbps to be honest.
