Official Web Africa thread

@HeftyCrab - can you please do a speedtest to UK and US tonight after 18h00?
What WA package are you on?
tia
air

Not sure what you usually use. I ran it from www.meter.net

The first two were to the UK, the last one (looking at the time) was to the US, NY IIRC. Keeping in mind this is over Wifi, with two laptops, and two phones connected, on the 4Mb down, 1Mb up package.

Strange that the first test to the UK was 3.51 download, and the next was 1.78, but like I said: My wife was using her laptop at the same time.

Date Hostname Down Mbit/s UpMbit/s Ping - ms
09.05 20:49 -.dyn.ftth.broadband.is 1,05 0,92 222,0
09.05 20:47 -.dyn.ftth.broadband.is 1,78 1,05 304,0
09.05 20:37 -.dyn.ftth.broadband.is 3,51 1,13 305,0

Screenshot of the first test:

EDIT:
Did another one to UK. Ping was cut in half, speed still basically the same as the previous test where I got 1,78 Mbit down:

Thank you guys for keeping us informed.

@Fultron - will get the development guys on this - they reported that the console has improved and will be doing so on the hour - will report your results and ensure this gets sorted - simply becuase its unacceptable and this should have resolved over the weekend

Will get on this asap

Again - to you all - your patience is appreciated

Will update you the moment we receive information directly from the CTO that this is resolved - will personally go and have a chat to get a move on with this

Thanks for this.

Any ETA for resolution? And for incorrect allocation of data?

@Fulton17 - All we can say right now as soon as possible. When we receive some kind of expected date we will be sure to advise. It really is a pain for us as well.

@air - Our network engineer requested that we get some data when you are experiencing the issue please. What we request is that you do speed tests to servers in the following locations:

New York
Cape Town
JHB
UK

Thereafter run 4 of the following URLs at the same time, let it run for about 5 minutes and take a screenshot of the "network" usage in task manager.

Oxford http://mirror.ox.ac.uk/sites/mirror...os/x86_64/CentOS-7-x86_64-Everything-1611.iso
Melbourne Hosting http://mirrors.melbourne.co.uk/site...os/x86_64/CentOS-7-x86_64-Everything-1611.iso
Warwick Univercity http://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mi...os/x86_64/CentOS-7-x86_64-Everything-1611.iso

XILO Communications http://mirror.mhd.uk.as44574.net/mi...os/x86_64/CentOS-7-x86_64-Everything-1611.iso

You may include traceroutes to:

facebook.com
webafrica.co.za
vodafone.co.uk

Please send the results to [email protected] and PM us the ticket ID that you will receive automatically afterwards.

We will send them to our upstream provider to have a look into as soon as we can.

Please make sure that nothing else is using the network at the time to get the true results of the test.

We should have enough information to ask them to fix whatever the problem is.

Really appreciate the time guys.

@WebAfrica - when I experience issue again. LOL, it is every day.
My patience is wearing thin, I have already run all these tests already. Why do I need to do them again? Nothing has change from a performance perspective.

Please answer these questions on this thread:

In terms of my issue, I assume Web Africa have only their finest engineers and upstream provider staff working on this?
What do I have better performance in the morning than evening?

Day_21: yep, no change(anyone surprised?) speedtests to UK/NY deliver about 10% of what I pay for.
Multiple 'single' file downloads provide a similar experience.

Still waiting for the call I requested via the portal.

For the sharpest minds(I'm assuming) at WA to struggle on this issue for 3 weeks and counting...

Interested to hear how the code of conduct complaint goes.

Resolved amicably and I must say professionally as well :)

There are definitely two people at WA that deserve medals for good customer service.

I will leave it there and for privacy reasons I will not mention any names.

A big thank you to the ISPA as well :)

I had the pleasure of receiving a call from WA last night, asking for the EXACT SAME ftp tests that i sent to them last week! So I'm into week four as well, with no progress or explanation as to what is going on...

It seems the console is now working, but my data allocation is way out.

For me, I probably won't use all my anytime data, but there is a principle at play and that is you must offer the service we pay for and that you promise to give. If you mess up, you must sort it out.

So when can I expect that data allocation to be sorted out? Thanks

Day_22: yep, no change and crickets from WA with regards to any type of solution.
UK - 5.5Mbs and NY - 4.77Mbs (*** experience all around)

performance as per usual much better in the morning than the evening.
Still not getting what I pay for, but speedtest results are in the 50% area which is significantly better than the 10% area in the evening.
Why is this Web Africa?

Include me in this update please. I still have the same issue. confirmation from the callcentre that they know of 4 or five users who have this problem.

Hi

I got a telephone update that IS were looking at a local ?node? which they thought might be creating issues.
They were going to give me a status update during the course of the day (nothing yet)
