Hi all,

I have a urgent request, not for myself, but for someone else.

I have a really good friend who is gagging to get a job on a oil rig and get away from his life here in SA.

I've done my Googling, I've done my hunting but I always end up with nothing, okay, I lie... I've sent about 100 e-mails for him, the only replies we get are generally automated replies.

Now this guy is not exactly stupid, he is a very smart guy (currrently works in a small company - machinery etc) but if these companies are judging him by his CV, then okay, maybe that's his downfall because he is really one of these hard working type guys who is really good at what he does.

Long story short, this guy isn't having a good year, and strongly believes he needs to get away... with that said, his goal is to get on the oil rigs and do 'whatever' - whatever because he'll do anything.

Guys, if you want to give my friend a awesome Christmas present, please, please (even I'm begging you) please give me any contacts to getting jobs on the rigs - here ends my emo thread, but if you can help, please toss me a PM and I'll pass it on.

Thanks peeps!

Well i doubt experience would really be a requirement, i mean HTF does anyone get experience if that is all they look for :D.

You should chekc the citizen i think it is, they have ads for fishing ships and oil rigs well they used to.

Thanks...

Hoping 'someone' here will know 'someone' who will know 'someone' who can help him get a 'foot in the door' or at least, a 'back door' entry ;) (Ya, I know how that sounds... lolol)

I'm going to go with "NO" - no previous experience on oil rigs.

It will be quite a challenge to get work for him, but never say never, there are always opportunities. :)

I hope everything turns out oky.

He will need to finish some courses - safety, first aid, survival, etc, can't remember all of them now. Without these he wont be able to get ANY job on oil rigs. and believe me, they are not cheap.

Noted! Will let him know!

I expected the FA course AT LEAST.

There was a thread somewhere on here in the past dealing with oil rigs.

Send a PM to Jase

He works on rigs and is a good mate of mine. He'll be able to point him in the right direction :)

Generally the only way someone gets onto the oil rigs is if they know someone who works on them, at least from what I've herd.

My thread.

I don't wanna work on them, just wanted to see one.

Finish your FA studies and you could also work on one. The money is VERY VERY VERY good.

However:

You work 12 hours a day 7 days a week and work for 4 weeks then you are off 4 weeks. No job for sussies for sure :)

Like I said,

You need balls of steel to be able to do that job. But those who do.... LOVE it. Or so I'm lead to believe :p Hey having every second month off is great. But working 12/7x4 is not my cup of tea either :D
