Sentech should offer The Rodent and all the other people that helped a free connection for a year at least. As they have potentially saved Sentech a lot of money in the future by this discovery. Now I just hope things get back to normal and we can have some decent internet in SA again, if thats possible.

Well done Rodent! Kudus to you boet!

Another thing..

First fscking thing I do when I get home is remove the restriction I added on my bittorrent client to cap downloads at 15K a second (I'm on the 256K package).

First fscking thing!

And then I'll grab a beer and toast TheRoDent.

Rpm, with all the traffic to this forum and topic the system is going into meltdown. Timeouts all over the place. You need more bandwidth - try the Snt... proxies...

Heh

Love the way Sentech blame their MW users for raping their bandwidth and then leave their international pipeline open to be raped by ANYONE IN THE WHOLE FSCKING WORLD!

PS: I'm browsing this site and international sites using Sentech's proxy [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]
I think my timing was just awesome. About two minutes before I posted, this http://www.sentech.co.za/index.php?name=Forum&file=viewtopic&t=32 went up on Sentech's bulletin board.

They talk about a recent e-mail? I haven't received one.

As someone already mentioned:
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22168.210.90.130%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&start=0&sa=N

It had to be wide open for quite some time to creep onto so many lists. Sentech, how could you be so ignorant? How?????

Edit: Did you once bother checking logs?

Can't believe it's still open. They've had an hour to sort things out but I'm still able access the proxy from my work link.

Maybe it will get the word out

Please don't think me an ******* for bringing this up or think I'm trying to discredit TheRodent: without him well.. we wouldn't lack proof that Sentech have no clue what they're doing, but now Sentech look like plain idiots for trying to put the blame on their users and making such a huge blatent stupid mistake.

My query is this : How large an effect on our bandwidth do you think those proxies being open has? I'm not an expert on these things, infact I know very little but my thinking is that it can't be bringing us all down from the potential 16Kb/s to the current 1.5 Kb/s I've been experiencing for the past month? Or can it? I dunno...

However I guess , this just makes you wonder. If they have made such an obviously large mistake , how many more critical ****ups do you think they've made with regard to their network. Oh well, I'm looking forward to seeing if this is the problem , I really hope it is and that speeds will pick up once it's fixed and I hope Sentech enjoy the taste of the pile of poop they just stepped in before sticking their foot in their mouths.

-Adios

I also contacted ITWeb, maybe our resident journalist (probably under another name by now) can also run a story on this

I'd be interested to hear Marketing's side of this AND IPWireless........

Help save the bandwidth. Decent download speeds for TheRodent! Stop downloading now!!!

Marcel may say..."Proxy...Sentech doesn't have a Proxy!"

Well done Ratman - sounds like a cool pseudo.

Hehehe, what I find funny is that there seems to be a fair bit of open-proxy scanning going on on our subnet - some of it seemingly from Sentech/IS ineternal IPs... they were probably thinking some of the users are being used as open proxies instead of checking their own systems.

Ouch !

TheRodent (Sir)

Would you say that this is the only problem Sentech has, or do you think or know that their are other issues on the network?

Just for interest sake.
