so is this true? I just got a new battery and its been on charge for 6 hrs now, i cant believe in this day and age of technology, we still got to charge stupid cell phone batteries for 16 hrs?

I though I would let you know of my experience.
The ROM on my Omnia was JBHH1 up until two days ago. I managed to mess with the phone a bit in order to allow me to install the latest UK Vodafone version ACHJ2.
It was worth every bit of effort.
The first and best thing is that my phone has been on for over 48 hours now and the battery has only gone down by one bar. WOW!!!
On JBHH1 I would have to charge my phone every evening or it would not make it through to the next morning.
The next improvement is that there is slightly more device storage memory.
I have not had much time to mess around with many more of the standard features but until such time just the life of the battery now was worth it.

thats what i wanna know? cause i also have this useless battery life...literally lasts 24 hours max!!!!
are u guys getting these great times with 3g on???? I have EVERYTHING off and power saving on, and i get 24 hours....
am seriously hacked about this, i have waited past my 7 days, and i cant wait for vodacom to drag their feet in swopping this...

same here...had it for 3 months now, thats like 90 days right? and i'm sure i have charged it no less than 90 times...probably more!

report back how it went... so i know if it's worth the energy... but knowing vodacom it will probably be a painful process again...
Vodacom was a nightmare, i basicalyl needed to bring dna samples....going to make a second attempt again...my battery life is literally becomnig a joke, it has gotten worse i think....if i use the gps it dies within 30 minutes......

How I installed it...
Hi,
I downloaded the actual ROM from the following site:
http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp
(My instructions that follow are based on Vista OS. There is a different process, I believe, for XP OS.)
Selected the following:
Country: UK
OS: Vista
On the next screen I entered the version as ACHI1 and clicked on OK.
You need to have Windows Mobile Device centre installed and the Omnia must be charged to around 75%
You will need a registry editor on the Omnia as you need to edit the following registry entry:
HKCU > Current User > Control Panel > Version
Edit the value from your current version to ACHI1
Now you can close the registry editor and then plug your phone into the data cable which should be connected to the PC where the ROM update file that you have downloaded is saved.
You then run the file that you have downloaded (in my case it was i900ACHJ2_updater_vista.exe)
This will now install the new ROM.
Once the ROM is installed you can struggle to get your screen aligned and the enjoy a much extended battery life.
I have absolutely no regrets after installing this ROM.

i'v been reading some of the threads and some people are saying to get a new phone which i can still do befor the seven days are up from Vodacom .
will i have the same problem with a new Omnia or is it just best to do a up grade of softwear

I was in the same situation as you and I got my phone exchanged by Vodacom. My new Omnia is constantly giving me between 4 and 5 days of battery life (even with 3G and HSDPA enabled). If I were you I would try and get the phone exchanged before I start messing about with the software and possibly void the warranty (I am not sure when the warranty might be voided, but in this case it is definitely safer to just get the phone exchanged).

if there is a software up date for the Omnia when will it be out for us to get - and will he guys at Vodacom give me a new handset with out checking it first letting the seven day bring back claus laps.??

Hi can you tell us from which version you upgraded? What is your overall impression of the new ROM? And whats new on it?

I upgraded my ROM last week as jaywagenaar did.
No major differences in the software, here and there Programs menu differs and the power on and shut down screen does not have a blue Vodacom Yebo Gogo screen but rather a very red Vodafone image. Other than that, I cant see any changes worth mentioning.
As for battery life, I haven't experience dramatically increased battery time - maybe day and a half instead of just a day.. but I do have 3G enabled all the time now so I'd say it was worth it.
But if you are still in the 7 days - go get a swap out! I wish I did it...sigh

Is the feeling that both MTN and Vodacom supllied phones suffer from the battery problem? I am under the impression that Vodafone flashes the fone with a modified flavour?
I am planning on getting the Omnia on a MTN based contract, but started wondering now...

I have the same issue, battery last less than 24 hours. Had it for 10 days now and charged it almost every night.
Charged it last night for no longer than 3 hours, and the battery indicator was at 100%. Used it for 2 minutes to test a divx movie and lost one bar. 2 phone calls and 2 sms's at 18h41 I have 2 bars left. Everything is turned off - GPS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, no apps running in the background.
Tried going to the ROM update, but I get an error that the version is incorrect (JCHH1).
What's the use of one of the most powerful smartphones on the market, when you cannot even use the most basic functions?
