OnePlus 12

Add esim had no effect. So you saying that's the same step you getting stuck at?

Yes that's where I'm stuck. It's supposed to get to another screen from there, this allowing you to scan the eSim QR code.

Should probably study this thread to gain clarity. I haven't cause I use dual SIM no esim. So no interest.

Busy looking at the OnePlus 12. Is everyone still happy with Chinese version with Global ROM installed?
Nanozee have some decent pricing.

Yeah. I'm happy. It's not perfect but it is at the price point. You'll find dirt if you look for it but I'm flipping loving this phone.

And if you want to sharpen the tool there is always root. I haven't felt the need.

I'd suggest that you go with the global version (Model Number: CPH2583) , i have the EU version (CPH2581) and i'm battling with eSim functionality and that was one of the main reasons why i bought this phone, unless that doesn't bother you. The global version is R14k on Amazon, it will cost you about R18k max including shipping and taxes to get it to South Africa.

Chinese version also has the same eSim problem I'm faced with, from what I've learnt.

I also don't think I'll consider rooting this device, it's awesome from the box.

Yeah. The esim is an odd one. Disappointing if that is a motivating factor. Are their major gains esim v physical sim?

I'm running a dual SIM setup and it works as expected.

Dual SIM setup works fine too, the main reason that made me want to get the eSim feature working is that I'm using Google Pixel watch that supports eSim/LTE, so in order to activate the eSim on the watch, i first need to set it up on the phone and push it to the watch via the watch app installed on the phone.

So I've come to a sad realisation on this device after spending time searching the net. If you purchased any of the Chinese versions (PJD110 for example) and flash it with Oxygen OS, the model code of the device changes. In my case, i bought the phone from someone that flashed it, and they assumed that eSim works, but as previously mentioned, it's a hardware issue that can't be fixed by flashing a different OS version. So i just checked the side of the box & my true model number/code is PJD110, and not CPH2581 that's showing in my settings. This is what mislead me in thinking that my device is the EU version.

So eSim won't function no matter what i do on my device. I have to live with this or sell this device and buy a true global version, this is likely to result in a loss. The question i have to ask myself is; does eSim matter to that extend? Because besides that, this device is awesome and offeres a great Android experience.

If anyone wants to buy this device and make use of eSim feature, buy the global version.

That's quite disappointing then and there's unlikely to be any way around that.

Maybe you could try advertising on Carbonite a wanted/to swap ad, with pay in and see if anyone has a non Chinese version that they can swap with you?

Alternatively the watch might be easier to trade for something compatible..

Hell, it's a nuisance when a fundamental feature is missing.

When I was buying mine I saw quite a substantial price difference between the Chinese and Global models and at the time I found that quite odd but it makes sense now. More hardware packed into the Global version?

It does seem like the additional hardware makes a price difference. Thanks I'll try that swap option on Carbonite.

Cracked my bloody S21 Ultra's screen (R6k to fix) so I'm looking at a new phone.

Can get an imported 256gb OP12 for around R14k.

Worth it? Any issues with Google apps if I have the GLOBAL ROM?

I don't think any of the OP12 variants have Google issues, definitely worth it, you won't go wrong. I'd recommend 512gb but if storage isn't much of a concern for you then 256gb is fine.

Crack a screen on a OP12 in SA and you won't be able to get it fixed locally. Or at least, not without jumping through hoops.

I won't say it's impossible, just difficult.

You would need to import the parts and find a local installer to install the screen for you. Most repair stores would probably help with fitting the new screen (for a fee)....

Global Rom, EU rom, India rom, all much of a muchness, expect an issue free run on any of them... I just switched from Global to EU to get firmware upgrades a week or so sooner. OnePlus's staggered release of firmware updates is a little irritating for the impatient among us (puts hand up)....
