It looks like there's no thread yet for the OnePlus 12. Any local owners?

Where did you buy or import from?

I've ordered one from China recently, it's still being shipped.

Your impressions of the device?

Which version did you order? I'm interested in getting one too. I see they can be found for approx R14500

I ordered the Chinese version (512GB storage | 16GB Memory) which will be flashed with the Global ROM and the box resealed by the factory. The Aliexpress seller seems to be OnePlus themselves, or some seller with ties to the factory.

I paid $670. This is before custom duties of course, but after shipping costs has been added. For comparison, the global version of the same specced phone (as opposed to the Chinese version) would have been $840 from the same seller, all considered.

I did buy it at just the right time as Aliexpress had a anniversary sale with nice discounts, and I also used a $80 coupon. Final price in ZAR was R13 156, before customs.

Dunno much about the 12 but I've had the 11 for 6 months now. Bought the international version in Hong Kong last year. Chinese version was about R2k cheaper, but just felt more comfortable getting the int'l version.

Charging is insane. Completely dead to 100% in less than 30 min. Phone is very slippery without a cover so maybe they changed it with the 12, but doubt you will have any regrets getting it.

Do you have the sellers store or the direct link?

My brother ordered the exact same phone a couple of hours after I did. For some reason, his order was cancelled and he's being refunded. We're not sure why yet. Mine went through without issue and is being shipped here at the moment.

Edit: it turns out his bank blocked the payment due to suspected fraud. So not the seller/Aliexpress' fault.

Recieved the phone yet? Interested to find out what the total cost including customs would be. Also if VoWifi works on our networks

This is the CN version, as is a couple of their other phones. What are the practical implications of this?

There's a couple of implications one should take into consideration:

1. No e-sim. You'll have two sim slots. As apposed to global version of the phone.

2. Phone needs to be flashed with global ROM. Some sellers do this before shipping. Can be done yourself too, but not everyone would be comfortable doing this themselves.

3. Charger won't have the SA plug. Will need an adaptor.

4. Chinese hardware differ as it supports fewer GSM bands. From what I understand, this is the primary reason why the Chinese version is cheaper. I checked though that It supports all the bands used in South Africa. If I was a regular traveller to different countries, I'd opt for the global version of the phone for sure.

hope you took insurance on that phone, otherwise somebody getting an early Christmas Present.

Hoping it doesn't turn out that way. I'm not sure why Aliexpress can't use a proper logistics partner like Temu, that allows one to pay customs beforehand and deliver the parcel to my door.

I paid $21extra for shipping and expected it to be delivered to my door without SAPO touching it.

My biggest gripe with a previous Chinese Version OS phone I had that was even with Play Store installed Android Auto along with some deep rooted Google play services would just not work

It's certainly a possibility. I was just not able to find any indication online that others have run into such issues. We'll see. I'll keep this thread updated.

I'll be picking up the OnePlus 12 tomorrow. Customs duties will be R3506. Total price, shipping and taxes included, will be R16 662.

If I were to buy the Global version through a local importer like Connected Devices, the price would be R24 549.

It remains to be seen whether I'll be tangibly affected by the fact that I'll be using the Chinese version with the Global ROM. I'll update the thread once I know more.

Have the Chinese version flashed to Global and works fine with MTN.
