OnePlus 12

Not yet received. Seems to be with "Speed Services" in JHB, which I understand is part of the South African Post Office? Not encouraging.

I had a dSLR stolen out of EMS which I think is the same crowd as Speed Services.

Arrival recorded, then disappeared, nothing recorded on their video cameras. Just like magic !

Of course they refused to to take responsibility, even though it was clearly stolen by their staff.

Poor sender had to cough up, they insisted on a 3% insurance fee.

Recieved the phone yet? Interested to find out what the total cost including customs would be. Also if VoWifi works on our networks
Finally received the phone.
Total price, shipping and taxes included, is R16 662. Cheaper than the R24 549 I would have to pay an importer like Connected Devices.

hope you took insurance on that phone, otherwise somebody getting an early Christmas Present.

Guess I was lucky!

My biggest gripe with a previous Chinese Version OS phone I had that was even with Play Store installed Android Auto along with some deep rooted Google play services would just not work

There's no indication that this is happening at all. I suspect there's a difference between the case where you install Google Play Services on a Chinese ROM, versus what I'm doing here, which is using a Chinese version of the hardware which has been flashed with the Global ROM as released by the OEM.

I don't have a car with Android Auto to test, but I'll be sure to give it a shot when I get the chance.

Great info, thanks

Worth paying extra for the Global version

I'll keep on looking for possible downsides to using the Chinese hardware, but as of yet, I don't see anything. If there wasn't some Chinese writing on the box, I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.

Happy to have saved a couple of thousand. Especially compared to a Samsung Galaxy Ultra, which would cost more than double what I paid.

Nice.... but i couldn't resist the S24 Ultra with the cheap trade in I bought. Worked out much cheaper than your OP12 :D

No issues with Nedbank or Capitec. I've not tested any others, but don't see a reason why they wouldn't work.

The Chinese variant of the OnePlus 12 has dual SIM, no esim.

What was the Ultra's price before trade in, after trade in, and what did you trade in?
Avo had the S24 Ultra cheaper than anyone else for Nedbank Greenback members.
Picked up a cracked iPhone 11 for cheap, getting 10k back in a few weeks.

Also if VoWifi works on our networks

I enabled VoWiFi and set it as the preferred option for routing calls. MTN has been supporting VoWiFi for a couple of years, so I expect it to work. Will keep an eye on how it performs.

Did VoWifi work?

Imported the 12R - 16gb 256gb model - the seller didnt provide the invoice on time to had to cough up R1500 for taxes etc in addition to the R750 for courier shipping. all in it was roughly R13k which is still not bad considering what it would have cost locally.

It did not come with a charge brick only the cable - did not come with a cover or the usb c to a adaptor either :(
did have pre installed screen protector though.

it arrived and immediately i had updated pending so updated to oxygen 14 something something and all seems to be working okay.

banking apps work to those who asked.
it does have a built in recorder app, i have not used it.
it has dual sim slots - doesnt have e sim
google has installed every one of their apps :( had to remove many
the edge display isnt bad at all, was expecting false touches etc but no its actually pretty smooth.

hope that helps anyone considering it

oh one issue i had was that i couldnt connect to the internet while on a call - i was trying to open my banking app to get a notification but i couldnt while i was on the call - not sure what setting i need to change to get that right.

I used to have this issue on my oneplus 7. Seems it's a oneplus thing as all my others phones didn't have this issue
