Oneplus 6

Is there a setting for the always on display to be well, always on? Mine goes off after a few seconds.

Always on feature was removed a while back. A lot of folk are pissed off with the decision. Maybe it will make a return.

Yeah, read about it on their forums. Hope they bringing it back.

Well face unlock is fixed in 5.1.8 it seems. It no longer unlocks if the user has their eyes closed...

EDIT: You know how to enable ambient display yes? Lift to wake and notification wake? Also double tap to lock/wake?

Yebo. It's all setup and working.

Why would you want the display the stay on?

I'm guessing that was because it rekt the battery life?

The security of face unlock has never bothered me. It's just meant to be a convenient means of unlocking the phone. What are the chances of a criminal having a pic of you printed out? A fingerprint is still required to make purchases, access the FNB or Bitwarden apps and any apps locked using the settings menu. I'll take this practicality over Apple's slow FaceID any day.

You can bring it back if you have root. I think I saw a video explaining how to.

Phone lies next to my keyboard on my desk and it makes life easier just to glimpse at it to see what notifications rolled in. Also makes a nice bed clock. If I wake up a quick look and I know I have X hours still to sleep :crylaugh:
On the pixel the always on would dim as well. So in a very dark room it would be barely visible. It would also switch itself off when in your pocket etc.

I haven't really experienced any battery drain on the pixel 2 XL when using it.

Not a train smash. They should just bring it back. Let the user decide if the battery drain makes an impact.

If rooted and using magisk, do banking apps still work?

You can use Magisk to hide the status of the app you want to work on rooted device. Works for the most part although I don't do any banking on my cell so can't really comment.

Let me test the Nedbank app quick and see...

I wish the navigation bar went transparent in apps... Could have sworn the OnePlus One running Cyanogenmod had that option back in the day.

That's what the LED light is for? I just don't leave notifications unattended to, and don't allow notifications to come in at all if they're not important to me. So I tend to not get junk notifications.

Also, buy a bedside alarm clock?

Are you not using gestures? They frigging awesome!! Take a day or 2 to get used to but they work so well and is so intuitive...

I did mostly use them, but the lack of quick app switching got to me.

Never liked tge LEDs option on phones. Makes it look cheap :crylaugh:
I'm used to the always on display. I like it.
Lol, recents gesture not doing it for you?
I like the gestures but also for me the quick switching by hitting the square button twice to jump between apps is gold.

Not even close. It's slow even for accessing the list of running apps, never mind quick switching to the most recently used one. I don't understand how OnePlus launched the gesture system without a gesture for one of the most commonly used functions of the navigation bar. They could have easily added it, for example with a little swipe up and straight down. With that I would stick to gesture navigation, as I do otherwise like it. Hopefully it's something they're currently working on.

Nothing cheap about the LEDs on the OnePlus 6. I don't like any features that sap battery without any major benefit. Always-on is something I don't think I'll ever enable on any device ever. If I really wanted similar functionality, Ambient Display is what I'd go for.
